    Default Hornqvist- PP1? Rebound?

Im seeing posts where hes listed as 3rw again- with Kessel gone theres no way thats accurate is there? I always thought he meshed pretty well with Malkin whose game isnt predicated as much on speed as some of the other penguins top forwards. Is it reasonable to pencli him in on that second line over Kahun? Is a reasonable pp1 expectation- Crosby, Malkin, Guentz, Hornqvist and Letang? I thought he was always somewhat of a PP specialist as a net front presence???

Im hoping for a reasonable shot at 25-35-60- with 235+ sogs. Then knock off a dozen games from that pro-rated :P

    Thoughts?

Hornqvist actually really doesn't play well with Malkin. He's played a decent amount there, but the combo is never particularly successful. He has much more success with Crosby, but I think the most reasonable projection right now is to have him on L3. As for PP, You're gonna have Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel for sure. There are reasonable arguments to be made that Schultz is better than Letang on the PP and that Letang is better than Schultz. They could kick it old school and have both. Or if they stick with the statistically more successful 4-1 alignment, Hornqvist is definitely a good net front presence and could keep that role, but there are also reasonable arguments that Guentzel can take over the net front role and both Galchenyuk and McCann are better Kessel replacements. The both certainly have significantly better long range shots than either Hornqvist or Guentzel. Even Bjustad wouldn't be totally out of the question. Both Bjustad and Hornqvist may have the upper hand because they are RHS though.

I would expect Hornqvist to be PP1 until he gets injured, which should be Oct 20th.
Depth charts prior to season start.. mean nothing.
As soon as he skates on a line with Crosby or Malkin in practice the depth chart will be adjusted.
Without Kessel, he pretty much just continues to line up where he's always lined up.... until he's hurt.

I've drafted Horny the last 3 years thinking the same and he's even more broken down now. He should rake in the points being in that PP but if you draft him expecting more than 50 points, prepare to be disappointed.

I think the Pens optimal lineup looks something like:

    McCann-Crosby-Guentzel
    Galchenyuk-Malkin-Kahun
    Simon-Bjugstad-Hornqvist
    Tanev-Blueger-ZAR

(Assuming Rust gets dumped eventually to sign Pettersson. Rutherford really screwed this one by signing Tanev, and then being unable to clear cap space to address the defense. Gardiner signing for $4.05 million is a slap in the face when he signed Tanev for damn near that price).

    Dumoulin-Letang
    Pettersson-Schultz
    please not Jack Johnson-Gudbranson

Hornqvist isn't really a top-six forward anymore. He still has good possession impacts at 5v5, so he's solid in a depth role with other good possession players like Simon. But I don't really want him with Crosby or Malkin unless they are trying to feature him for trade value or something. It's entirely up in the air whether he gets PP1 duties, and that's really going to be the crux of whether he has rebound fantasy value. His even strength scoring was pretty consistent last year with previous seasons, but he was losing PP time later in the year. We'll see how that goes ...

Um, you got Kase in that deal. If It's Ondrej, it's a great deal. If it's David, not so great.
