Re: [Re-Signed] Eric Comrie 2 year, $1.4M
I'm thinking 60-40 or 70-30 split for AHL starts between Comrie and Berdin, with Comrie getting some more relief NHL work due to injuries.
Comrie has been a reliable AHL starter, and already has a ton of professional games under his belt at a young age (just turned 24 years old). The bottom line is that he needs to get some more looks in the NHL to see if he has the goods, which I actually do think he does. It sucks that he's buried behind Hellebuyck, and Brossoit having a wonderful season last year doesn't help his short-term chances. He is probably going to need a trade to really get substantial big league opportunities.
As for Berdin, I don't think you can really say that he has stolen the AHL starting job from Comrie when the kid only played 23 games. Sure, his numbers were superior to Comrie (92.7% > 91.7% in half as many games), but Berdin just turned 21 himself. Comrie is still the experienced, workhorse option who has shown 50+ start potential time and time again. I think Berdin is an exciting prospect, but Comrie still surely has the upper hand.
