well to certain degree all broadcasters are actors so maybe im wrong saying that i think BobCat was close to 100% honest most of the times and he did tweet out that he is not going to retire and that we will hear him again...i think he was pushed...

but you are right, we will never know for sure...its matter of opinion

I have watched very little hockey in the past many years mainly because I can't stand the inane commentary. It would be refreshing to see intelligent, thoughtful analysis but it seems that the dumb jock archetype always seems to prevail.

It’s refreshing to see hockey. Not sure why commentary would influence the watching of the sport in between periods. But maybe I’m more into the sport and grab my beers during the intermission. (Are you as passionate about the refs while the game is going on too? P )

I think a changing of the guard is a good thing. Refresh things.

To be honest I actually had forgotten about this. Yikes.

I think this is also good news for a guy like Friedman, who has actual insight and inside information to relay. I found a lot of the time on these panels, guys like Kypreos and MacLean always got more talking time just because they were louder and liked to talk about how things were in the good old days. I found a lot of the HNIC broadcasts involved Kypreos and Hrudy constantly bouncing back and forth and Friedman awkwardly looking on.

As I said I think Sportsnet was in need of changes but I don't have faith in them to make the right changes. If anything it'll mostly be the same, only cheaper.

So is this dumb thinking? But why not increase nhl.com with the likes of John Shannon, or Kyper and ditch the Jensen's and Hradek's etc?

TSN should poach Friedman before Bobby Mac retires next year.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I didn't mind Kypreos. I didn't always agree with his take, but I like having an ex-player's opinion on things. McLean wasn't my favourite either, so I won't miss him much. I want to hear from recently retired players.

it will probably be a mixture of burke/stellick/armstrong/anthony stewart on hockey central with either marek or d. amber hosting .

Disappointing to see as I was a huge fan of Doug MacLean and John Shannon. I get Doug's opinions weren't the best but man was he funny. You need that on a broadcast and I think it's something TSN sorely misses. It basically just looks like Sportsnet is getting the Blue Jays treatment.

Also....Jeff Marek strays way too close to Pierre McGuire territory with his "hockey talk" and freaking out on prospect's hometowns. He just gets off the hook because he's younger and "cooler".

Apparently NBC is letting Pierre McGuire go too. I’ve always been one of the very few that liked the guy. Hope TSN uses him more now.
