McDavid is overrated in Multicat leagues

Hey guys,

What's with the overhype on McDavid in Mulcat / Banger cap leagues? He's not worth the cost.

In my one league he ranked 10th last year, the other league he was 5th. Both are also cap leagues, so his price is a big red flag imho. I rather own Larkin of Zibanejad over McDavid.

he ain't a multi-cat beast, but he is and will be amongst the league's best top scorers in G A PTS PPP.
if your league counts FOW, HITS, BLKS, PIM then obviously there are better alternatives, but you then draft your team based on needs.

McDavid wont cover all the categories, but if you say have E.Kane on your team then they complement each other.

1v1 Zibanejad and Larkin may be better multi-cat overall vs McDavid, but with McD you will get +/- 20 to 30 points better in Assist, PPP, Points in general. just cover the other categories with other players.

Well, talking about salary cap leagues that's a huge caveat. Comparing him to guys like Larkin and Zibanejad who are both on superb value contracts, also not exactly apples to apples. You're kind of just saying "these multi-category studs with incredible value contracts are incredible assets in a multi-cat league with a salary cap." Not really a controversial point.

McDavid ranked 13th or something in the dynasty in my signature, but it's next to impossible to find another player who is capable of putting up those kind of points + shots outside of Kucherov, maybe MacKinnon and Crosby, but McDavid has still yet to reach his prime and is on another level from the next tier of elite centers. I wouldn't let the fact that he doesn't get a lot of Hits/PIM detract from his obvious value.

The hype is there because, he's basically a 110pt guarantee with a 150pt ceiling. No one else has the potential to 'go off' like he could.

Multicat is fine, but points are still the hardest category to get, and it's not particularly close.

If your team is simply a one person team, then you are right, he's not the best option but I dont think your team only rosters one person. You get your scoring from some players and your banger cats from others. McDavid doesnt offer much for banging, but he offers more than 99.9% of the NHL in regards to scoring. Get your banging elsewhere and get your points from McDavid.

Price tag is high but it's worth it, is it not? Pretty soon 80 point guys are all going to make 10m. McDavid could be a 125 point guy one of these years. He can help put you near the top of all of the points/offense categories almost on his own. As others have noted, you can find those other categories with other players later on. Yes you have to 'catch up' in other categories a little but its worth it to have a guy who can separate himself from the pack like that.

This is true but you can always fill in guys that will get you faceoff wins, PIM's, and hits.. You can't always grab players who score over 100 points!!
