Looking to draft a young D in my upcoming draft who can become a keeper for me after this season as my D is starting to show its age. Who of these youngsters would you want in a points only keeper ?
Jokiharju
Sandin
Hronek
Ty Smith
Valimaki
Fox
I'd take Byram but I expect he'll be gone by the time I pick. Who do you like from these.
For me its Adam Fox. Could get some PP1 time as soon as this year and I wouldn't be shocked to see him put up 45 points this year. Hronek is a close second for me. Depending how long Green holds onto the PP! spot, Hronek could be a half point a game guy. The other 3 are longer term options in my view. Valimaki is behind Andersson in Calgary for the foreseeable future, Jokijarju is stuck behind alot of more established options in Buffalo. Sandin will be fighting to get regular playing time this year.
Hronek for me. Green will undoubtedly be out of commission at some point meaning Hronek will jump in as the number 1. Have you considered someone like Ryan Pulock also? Hronek, Fox and Valimaki are 3 guys I really like. Jokiharju is also very talented but that trade to Buffalo hurt his short term value, in my opinion.
Points only keeper. 12 Teams. No pos requirements. 18 skaters / 3 goalies (2 count for points.) G/A = 1 point each (includes goalies) Goalies = 1.5 for W / 4.5 for SO. Minors - 4 year protection. Prospects added during their draft year only. Undrafted = waivers.
Skaters: Tolvanen,Jeannot,Drysdale,Benson,Sprong,Fantilli,H .Lindholm,T. Raddysh,K. Miller,Edvinsson,Roslovic,Sharangovich,McBain,Benn ett,Crouse, Luostarinen,Dube,Phillips
Goalies: Gustavsson,Schmid,Vejmekla
Minors: F.Pinelli,Beckman,Cossa,Nikkanen,Tieksola,Pashin,M cMichael,Konovalov,Svechkov,K.Johnson,Moore,Crista ll,Heidt,Ziemmer,Perron,Nadeau,Gulyayev,Wahlberg, Suniev,Tomasino,Khusnutdinov
Hronek would be my first choice of those, as I expect him to take over PP1 this year for the Red Wings.
Fox is next on my list, as I think he's got more of shot at PP time than Valimaki does, but both have competition that is either young or recently acquired. Calgary also has Giordano there, who isn't leaving PP1 this year.
Jokiharju's path to PP1 requires multiple injuries or trades of players ahead of him, and/or the team going with 2 defensemen on the power play while he looks stunning to them. He's talented, but the situation is really bad for him at the moment. Sandin is also a longshot.

I prefer Hronek until someone else on that list can prove me wrong.

I would grab Hronek or Adam Fox!!

Angus is my best friend at dobberhockey..
That really limits options IMO...
Hronek
Valimaki
are your only strong bets to even play a full season. So one of those two... If considering Valimaki - don't look too far past Rasmus Andersson - who knows who wins out the PP battle between those two.
Smith, Fox, Jokiharju - great upside, but 20+ games each? maybe 80? who knows??
Sandin -- most likely a 2nd year in the AHL. with a couple cups of coffee - **blueline gets injury riddled - he'll likely get a quick call up and he could make it impossible for them send him down.

Well, Valimaki is out of commission now with a torn ACL so that changes things. If you're wondering which guy could become a keeper after next season, it's likely Hronek -- maybe Smith or Fox if a bunch of things break right for them. Hronek should easily be the best option for the next couple seasons.
Longer-term upside, I would say:
Smith
Fox
Hronek
Valimaki
Jokiharju
Sandin

G: Bobrovsky, Holtby, Lehner, Greiss-Varlamov

I would take Fox and then Hronek. Hronek might have a chance at bigger minutes right now but Fox is an impact player to be, whose upside is a lot greater I think.
Ty Smith for me
Short term : Hronek
Long term : Smith
Hybrid : Fox, who'll get points short term, but not as much, and will get more in the future, maybe just not as much as Smith.
