Re: Lundqvist / Georgiev
I'd expect to see Shesterkin get into some games, unless of course he is really bad transitioning to the AHL. The organization definitely wants to treat him right, as he's potentially their future in net for a long time. If he's playing well in the AHL early on, I would expect that the Rangers will get creative with Georgiev and his waiver exemption. Georgiev can play another 17 NHL games before he has to pass through waivers when sent down to the AHL.
It's entirely possible that the Rangers run a three-man platoon in net with Lundqvist seeing about 45-50 starts and the rest being split between Georgiev and Shesterkin, with the other being shuttled down to AHL to pick up starts down there. Having Shesterkin able to play some NHL games could potentially preserve Georgiev's waiver-exempt status later into the season, increasing his potential trade value leading up to the deadline if they choose to go that route. Additionally, it also takes some of the pressure of Hank (and Georgiev) if the coaching staff is able to build their schedule around three guys playing consistently.
If I am the Rangers I'm not in a rush to burn Georgiev's waiver-exempt status. Having that flexibility is so crucial while the organization is trying to determine what their future is in goal. I would expect Shesterkin, in particular, is going to shuttle between New York and Hartford quite a bit.
