@HockeyAgent1
Gold Star Hockey client Andrei Vasilevskiy has signed an 8-year extension with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He would like to thank great fans, ownership and management for making Tampa such a great place play and live for him and his family. #WeAreGoldStar!@FriedgeHNIC

I’m not sure Tampa should be paying a goalie that much. Good value on him, but any average goalie would do. This might change their dynamic going forward.
Three immediate thoughts:
Still less than Price or Bob.
The Tbay discount strikes again, and it'll be solid value.
Same number as Kuch, which sets the bar for Point to not go over $9.5M.

It's a great time to invest in TB prospects. So many big contracts so they'll have to continue working in ELC guys to stay under the cap.

I still dont see Point getting more than Hedman but time will soon tell.
As far as Vasilevskiy, I think this is fair value for a goalie of his calibre but more importantly, his age. TB is smart to lock him up now compared to watching Montreal and Florida signing the big money and term to goalies who are on the backside of their careers. Vasilevskiy is still on the way up.

Hedman signed two years ago though. If you use his %CH at signing as the ceiling, which would be the better comparable IMO, then Point ends up at about $8.8M, which almost splits the difference between Hedman and Kuch.
Also definitely agree on the fact of locking up the younger guy long term. Makes the Helle and Gibson deals look like steals too.

I'm shocked he signed for that much and I'm also shocked this happened before Point's extension.
I don't see this as a team friendly contract, so expecting Point to sign a team friendly deal doesn't seem all that realistic to me.

He was always going to be paid as one of the top goalies in the NHL. This extension coming in toward the low end of that possibility is ultimately a good thing for Tampa. I do think this also puts a cap on the AAV of the eventual Point extension. $8-8.5 million wouldn't suprise me at this point.

He is 5 years younger than Bob, signed for a year longer than Bob, and is getting paid $500k less than Bob. It is about as team-friendly a deal as any smart 25 year old world class goalie coming off a Vezina Trophy win should be willing to give. If he didn't sign now and had a 40+ win Vezina Trophy year next year then he could easily ask for Price money or more IMO.
The fact that he's signing this at 25 is huge. Even if his skills nosedive by the time he's 32 or 33 the team will have had so many years of value that I can't see this being a bad deal for them, provided, of course, they can remain elite enough. But I guess the way they ensure that happens is with deals like these....
