Engelland's contract has a base salary of $700,000 and incentives that could total up to an average annual value of $1,500,000.

Except that Deryk Engelland is well, well below replacement level in pretty much every regard. There's no possible contract he could sign that would be team friendly.

He was a Vegas resident before being selected by the Knights in the expansion draft a few years back, so there's probably a good reason to sign him there that goes beyond his on-ice performance.

With Vegas tight against the cap I'm a little surprised at the bonus structure. I wouldn't be surprised if a good chunk of this ends up as a 2020-21 cap hit.

Here’s a look at the bonus structure of Deryk Engelland’s contract. These marks can raise his salary from $700k to as high as $1.5M. #VegasBorn

Yeah that's not great, especially for a guy who is below replacement level.
