    Default Early keeper question

Who would be the 6 you would keep in the league in my signature. I finished 4th last season after being in 1st most of the year. Also worth noting I don’t have a 1st round pick but still have 6 picks in the first 5 rounds. 2C,2LW,2RW,4D,2G start each night

Tkachuk, Boeser, Laine, Huberdeau, Meier, Dahlin....geez that's tough, that no trading thing really kills the value of having to choose when you can't do anything with the ones you don't choose.

I would keep Pettersson, Hubs, Svech, Meier, Laine and Dahlin. You can probably sell me on Tkachuk over Svech, but I would slightly lean Svech right now. That would be an awesome young core to build around moving forward.

Dahlin is a must keep at D. I then want Petterson, Tkachuk, Svechnikov, Meier, and Laine as the other 5.

You are giving up some more high end scoring, but keeping guys who all have bit more grit than the other options at their position, and it's really weird to say that about Pettersson, but Monahan is a Lady Byng candidate.

You also have the wings set, and have 2 mutli position guys there, so you can look for pretty much any forward position to help out, and focus more on other spots you need.

Mine are exactly the same as Steve's - Dahlin, Pettersson, Tkachuk, Meier, Svechnikov and Laine.

It was a hard decision to drop Dahlin.

Whoever telling you not to keep Dahlin is crazy (no offence). Hubs over Tkachuk for upside, better supporting cast, and because I don't see Brady being quite as consistent as Matt with the peripherals.

No offence taken...it wasn't an easy decision, and I can be convinced to keep Dahlin over Monahan...it came down to those two for me.

In a league with only 84 keepers and no off-season trading, I don't see many dmen being protected, let alone one who isn't really a multi-cat stud like Dahlin. I just feel you can replace what Dahlin brings to the table in the draft. You probably can with Monahan as well, mind you, so it really was almost a coin flip for me between Monahan and Dahlin.

Completely valid argument. My thinking was that it's easier to replace a 70pt C when you only start two of them than it is to replace a 50pt Dman when you start four of them.

Very possible...Monahan was the 12th highest scoring center in the NHL last season, whereas Dahlin was the 23rd highest scoring dman. I can certainly see Monahan regress to 70-75 pts, and Dahlin increase to 50 pts. Both Monahan and Dahlin are not really very good multi-cat options. Low SOG, PIM, Hits. Dahlin's plus/minus concerns me, and in all honesty in leagues like this I often opt for dmen with slightly lower offensive potential for ones more 'well-rounded'. I'd take someone with 35-40 pt potential with 100+ HITS and PIMS over someone like Dahlin who will get your 10-15 more points, but not much else.

Again, same can be said for Monahan. You could replace him with someone like Trocheck, give up maybe 15-20 pts, but get loads more HITs and PIMs, etc.

Tough call either way for me.

Bottom line, whether I opt for Monahan or Dahlin, I see them both as borderline keepers in this league on this particular team.

Steve is absolutely correct in every respect here. Don't really have much else to add besides the fact that I think these guys clearly offer the best mix of elite point production, multi-cat contributions, roster flexibility, future keeper value, etc. Brady Tkachuk is going to be an absolute madman in these settings.

I couldn't talk myself into keeping 2 players from the Nucks. It's really hard to not want Pettersson but I feel like wingers are harder to come by and having strength on that right side could be an asset later.

These are the same guys I would choose, but Svechnikov would definitely get the nod over B. Tkachuk. I'd take Boeser over Tkachuk, but still not before Svechnikov.
