Does anyone still think Girard has a bright fantasy future?

Depends what your definition of "bright" is. Do I think he hits 60 points? No, but I never expected that. Do I think he can be a steady 45 point guy in the right situation? 100%. Is Colorado that situation right now? Likely not.

Seems like many people are very high on him. I traded him in my cap league last year as I just don’t see it.

If you own him try to move him while some hype is still there

    agreed

given his current situation, I don't see Girard producing more than 35 pts, even though he has the skill to do so. Rarely do we see a team have three dmen score over 40 pts...it happens, but it is rare. Given that Makar and Barrie (for now) are the two top dmen, they will get the majority of the opportunity/points. Once Barrie leaves, or is traded, I think it will be the Makar and Byram show.

If Girard is ever traded, his value could increase (depending on how the new team can deploy him).

Yes. Also, from this morning's ramblings.

Speaking of Avs defencemen, Ian Cole isn’t expected back until Christmas following the hip surgeries. The team just acquired Kevin Connauton, who figures to be the replacement for Cole until he returns.
This should mean a boatload of ice time, at least through the first two months, for Sam Girard. The left side of the Avalanche blue line isn’t very deep; we’re talking guys like Zadorov, Graves, Barberio, and of course Connauton. Do not be the least bit surprised if Girard is at 21-22 minutes a night early in the season, barring an impact signing or trade.

I do not own him. The guy trying to move him wanted a prospect or a 4th rounder. My prospects are Borgstrom, Brannstrom, Dobson, Batherson, and Wahlstrom. So I’m definitely not doing that.

I'd easily trade Batherson or Dobson for Girard, then flip Girard in November for Batherson/Dobson/Equivalent+, providing they occupy similar roster spots. I wouldn't expect either for those two (B or D) to have a material change in value whereas Girard could have a big perceived push with all the Barrie rumours, EJ being out, Cole being out, etc.

I agree...the cost to acquire Girard is so minimal that I'd probably grab him and look to flip him if he has a short-term bump in value. Long-term, I'm not super high on Girard's value, but he has more value to me than Batherson or Dobson.

This is a good piece of info, but doesn't really change my long-term outlook on Girard.

The main factor, imo, in determining a dman's fantasy value is power play ice-time. It remains to be seen, but I don't see Girard getting significant PP time short or long-term in Colorado, even if they have a shortage of LHD.

Girard gets very little respect in my league. I doubt I’d get anything for him if I flipped him. I think Batherson is going to be very good, so to me that would be a no go.

If you flipped him now, you're right... it's the same in most leagues -- nobody thinks too much of him. But if he takes advantage of increased PP time in the first 15 games and has 10-15 points under his belt at that point, perception would be very different.

This is how to turn around a team quickly... a risk managed bet on a player (in this case Girard) starting the season hot, in which case he should be able to return significantly more than you pay, all within a 6ish month investment horizon. I wouldn't expect Batherson's perceived value to change much over that same period.
