[TRADE] Trouba to Rangers for Pionk, 20th overall

Athletes not wanting to re-sign long term stinks. It boils down to Trouba and Lemieux for Pionk a late 1st and a 5th and two months of Hayes.

Jets were painted into a corner. They could have offered Trouba the keys to the city and he was refusing. Sucks.

Pionk is atrocious at 5v5, highlighted by his complete inability to deny zone entries -- I believe he was the worst regular Dman in this category during 18-19. Classic example of the Rangers using the "pump and dump" strategy here. On the surface for Chevy, he can say they acquired a young, mobile Dman who's good on the PP, and played 20+ minutes per game blah blah. But the fact of the matter is they got fleeced, even while getting some serviceable assets in return.

Trouba's value goes up from last season, given his undisputed #1 role with NYR. He's going to get all the minutes, all the situations, all the deployment. I feel like this may diminish some of the Adam Fox hype, but he gets to develop in a much more sheltered role and he should be an effective PP2 guy as well.

No doubt a bad trade for Winnipeg, simply not enough value coming back. Troubadour should climb the D ranks a bit with the obvious better deployment but does this trade effect Pionk’s value at all, from a fantasy perspective that is?

Unbelievable. The NYR <--> WPG trades boil down to Kevin Hayes & Pionk for Trouba & Lemieux. Gorton is staking an early claim to GM of the Year.

The Trouba-Hayes exchange over the last couple months was definitely a win for the Rangers, but calling this statement extreme hyperbole would be underselling it.

Jets have 25 million in cap space.
They need to re-sign Laine, Connor and Myers at the minimum.

I can't see Laine and Connor wanting anything less than what Ehlers got, and Laine easily could get more.
Myers is probably looking for at least what he was getting paid before, maybe a little more, as long as it comes with term.

So that's at least Connor (6M$) + Laine (6M$) + Myers (5.5M$) = 17.5M$ for those 3 players, minimum.
25-17.5 = 7.5 left over for Trouba and to round out the roster.

This trade makes sense if they know Trouba wants close to that in salary, which I think is safe to assume they do considering they've been negotiating with him forever.
They probably don't want to go to arbitration again either after Trouba had such a great year.

Dreger on TSN1050 says Kevin Cheveldayoff was really boxed in, Trouba made it abundantly clear there were only specific teams he would go to, Trouba’s list wasn’t 10 teams long or even 5 teams long, Dreger believes it was 1 or 2 teams long. #NYR #NHLJets

Trouba didn’t want to stay. It was a personal thing. They could have paid him max dollars and term and he wasn’t staying. I’d have made Buff take a back seat next year but even that wouldn’t have been enough. Trouba wanted out and now the Jets will be much, much worse. They were already pretty rough defensively last year. Myers is awful in his zone. I’d have traded him or let him walk in favour of Trouba but since the latter was never gonna stay, the Jets were stuck.

Buff has lost a step. Morrissey can’t do it all. This is gonna hurt.

Those numbers look a little optimistic to me (mostly Laine). Connor similar to Ehlers at $6M makes sense, but it might get bumped up based on cap %. Myers at $5.5 makes sense, maybe a little higher, maybe a little lower. I think Laine is more likely to be looking for $8-$9.5, even with his down year last year.

I don’t really buy that spin. Everyone said Fox would only sign in NY and Carolina still traded for him. Trouba didn’t have any actual trade protection.

Maybe I should have connected the dots better in my post, but that's essentially what I was getting at, one needed to go and the writting was on the wall for Trouba.
