Always sucks when someone doesn't get to go out on their own terms.
I'd be surprised if he plays again. He's got small kids, so you hope his quality of life will allow him to fully enjoy them moving forward

Most of the time I'm in favor of players playing as long as they want. I mean, if someone is willing to pay then go for it. Some instances it's sad watching the player collect a paycheck while not even looking like an NHL player. Kesler became that player this past season. Second-line minutes and eight points in 60 games. This latest surgery seems to be more geared towards quality of life and lengthy recovery as opposed to the usual procedures to get the player back on the ice ASAP. I hope he makes the right call and opts for quality of life after hockey. He has nothing to prove. In these parts, he's been a multi-cat monster for a large portion of his career.

Always a fierce competitior and despite leaving Vancouver on less than favourable terms I wish him well in his retirement.
It would be interesting to see a fantasy impact article on this. Does this open the door for Sam Steel?

This will definitely be the first page turned on a new era/youth movement in Anh.
