It's not going to be Colorado, Sakic isn't that stupid. They've got so many guys to lock up in the next 2-3 seasons: Rantanen, Girard, Landeskog, Grubauer, Makar, etc.

They have too many of their own guys to pay in the next couple seasons, so I just don't see them signing Marner to some ridiculous offer-sheet and giving up all those picks, too. Sakic seems better than that.

New York Islanders... they are still bitter about losing Tavares... this would be a great PR move from the team and get the fans loving the team again... rather than just hating Tavares. haha

Recent history with Toronto, limits the teams...

Ottawa - the trade and head coach DJ Smith
Colorado - Barrie/Kadri deal
New York Is. - Lamoriello

Those are the big 3... clearly two have closer histories & know Marner better than others.

I said it in the offer sheet thread, nobody is crazy enough to give up four 1sts and a $11-12M contract for any player. Just not happening.

McDavid is probably the only player in recent history that would be worth that sort of expenditure.

Aho signing that sheet last week (for much less than the max compensation because again, nobody is that crazy) gave the annoying media more fuel to milk this Marner offer sheet narrative to keep Leaf fans riled up.

I wouldn't put it past Marner's camp to maybe want to bluff with one and force the Leafs to match something, similar to what I believe Aho did, but finding that other team willing to put all that collateral on the table isn't going to be as easy as they think. Threatening the sheet is one thing, actually getting and signing one is a whole other manner and I think they're empty threats from his camp trying to squeeze what little leverage they actually have.

Someone like Kyle Connor is far more likely to get successfully sheeted IMO. The Jets are tight on cap and have to rebuild most of their blueline plus sign Laine as well. If someone threw the Aho deal at Connor it might be enough to get him.

And I've said a team will have to do the 7yrs if they give up 4 1st round picks, as who would really want to give up 4 1st for a player who can walk on FA after 5yrs?

Sportsnet intereviewed Vendetta which matched another non-eklund source.

yeah, Vendetta just confirmed that he has heard similar news to what was first reported by The Fourth Period (Pagnotta). Pagnotta, btw, was the first person to break the story about JT signing in Toronto.

If true, For 12.5M the Leafs should just walk away and use their money elsewhere. But I highly doubt that this is true

I expect what he is saying is true. It may not happen, but there are enough media sources reporting that teams are strongly considering presenting Marner with an offer sheet that I don't believe Pagnotta is being dishonest.

Sure, many media sources reporting possibility is there. Media has been reporting this all season long. I can see an offer sheet but not for 12.5M, team has to pay that deal and also give up 4 picks. Not happening (IMO).

This is the agent playing games as this is the only leverage he has especially after the Aho offer sheet.

yeah, that is possible...just wanted to differentiate between what is likely to happen versus what is actually happening...

- may not happen/not likely to happen = Marner signing an offer sheet

- is certainly happening = teams are considering the possibility of presenting Marner with an offer sheet

Many people have been accusing members of the media of creating the rumors of potential offer sheets as though the media is merely a puppet of Marner's agent, or to create traffic to their website (fear mongering and riling up the Toronto fan base, etc.). I mean, the same thing happened when Laraque broke the story that Montreal was going to offer sheet someone...people said Laraque was an idiot, click-bait, etc., yet it happened.

I don't know if Marner is going to sign an offer sheet, but at this point I'm 100% the idea has been considered by multiple teams.
