The weight of consistent, forward-thinking philosophy over safe, staid team building is a wide divide. In a keeper league the only way for consistent success is to realize that your moves aren't for today. The joy and fun in these leagues (and I've been a participant for 35 years) is building a team. Your short-sighted advice flies in the face of logic. Good philosophy brings long-term success. Conservatism kills.
Fantasy hockey is a little different. While you're waiting 3-5 years for guys to develop, I'll take the guys like Doughty, win the league a few times, and then ship them off for someone similar who is a few years younger (Morrissey or Trouba for example). Then there's no period of losing
If the joy for you is building a team, go for it. The joy for me is competing to win every single year.
