That's the only thing that makes sense at this point, unless they KNOW they're getting more than what they gave up to acquire Duchene. Anything else would be lateral at best.

They will mess it up if Melnyk is still there. If any of those 1sts become major stars they'll be dealt before they get paid top dollar. So more futures instead of building a winner.

LOL! I still can't believe Dorion didn't include that in the deal with COL. Probably didn't even think of it - the guy is not a seasoned GM.

Why does it seem that only the Melnyk/Dorion Sens would overpay for Duchene, then sell him for less a year later, and have him playing on his new team vs. Ottawa IN Ottawa, the day of the trade?

Fortunately, Duchene will be pretty familiar with the opponent in his first game with the Jackets.

After hearing about the conditions on the draft picks (2019 top 3 protected, 2020 if Duchene re-signs), I don't think Columbus has any desire or intent on re-signing Duchene. If CBJ thought they were going to re-sign Duchene, they would have put lottery protection on the 2020 1st and not the 2019 one. That makes this a pure rental deal.

With that said, I dolike the deal as giving up a marginal prospect in Davidsson and an offense only prospect who has not yet been able to put up any offense and a likely late 1st round pick seems like a good deal for a player of Duchene's ability.

He did include it. The problem was it was a lottery pick protection for 2019. They decided to draft Tkachuk instead of giving Colorado their fourth overall pick last year.

Here are the profiles for Abramov and Davidsson:
    https://dobberprospects.com/player/vitali-abramov/
    https://dobberprospects.com/player/jonathan-davidsson/

Davidsson has higher NHL certainty IMO but Abramov has the high upside. Davidsson could play on the Sens as soon as next season. Very solid all-around player.

So what happens if that 2019 first does win the lotto and end up 1st, 2nd or 3rd?

d'Oh! I had forgotten that, and I drafted Tkachuk! It was Treveling who didn't lottery protect the pick he sent to NY for Hamonic.

Ottawa would get the 2020 1st and if Duchene re-signs the 2021 1st.

Can't see them splitting up that first line.

Foligno - Duchene - Anderson seems most likely to start tonight.

100% this is a rental and CLB is all in now. I don’t see them moving Bobrovsky or Panarin. Dreger claims they aren’t done adding yet either. They are all in this season and why not? They have a great shot at representing the Metro in the East Final and then they just have to string 8 wins together for the Cup. The issue is if they fail (more likely than not given the odds) they will lose Duchene, Panarin and Bobrovsky all for nothing and won’t have a first round pick. Risky business by Kekalainen but I like it. Big balls on that guy.
