Irrelevant trade? Or do the oilers think Gagne could help this terrible power play? Way too little way too late imo.

I think we see Spooner playing for the Canucks so it’s not totally irrelevant. Gonna take more than Gagne to change Edmonton.
Apparently both NHL clubs are going to give these guys a spin at the highest level. For Vancouver, with all their injuries there's a fit. And Edmonton's been icing multiple AHL level guys in their bottom-six all season.
The Oilers have to make a roster move to get Gagner into the lineup as early as tonight, and the simplest answer is to demote Cave or Malone, however it probably ends with Puljujarvi going down to the minors in the next few days.
I cannot fathom trying to put Gagner onto a roster with Hitchcock as the head coach but what do I know.
This isn't a franchise changing deal. It probably amounts to nothing. After all, there's a reason those players ended up in the minors. It's a typical change of scenery type of deal, with the Oilers likely targeting Gagner to try and give their PP a small boost. Again, likely amounts to nothing.

I don't hate it for the oilers. Spooner didn't work out and Gagne may be able to help the power play. Either way, hes going to give Hitchcock migraines.

I agree, not franchise changing but who knows what either guy can do for the new team going forward. It's two minor league guys who may be able to help their NHL teams to some extent. Time will tell if this works out for either team or player. No harm, no foul trade IMO.

It's easy to forget both guys were fantasy-relevant in recent times. They're both capable of piling up points but their flaws make them bubble NHL players.

Not insignificant is the lower cap hit for Gagner. They gotta keep chipping away at that cap hit situation one move at a time.
IDHL League 28 team H2H league multicat full keeper
Rebuilding
Cooley, Guenther, Hoglander, Lundell, Quinn, Voronkov, Stankoven, Carlsson
Hutson, Zellweger, Clarke, Miller, Xhekai, Malinski, Thrun
Skinner, Dostal, Hofer
Beck, Bolduc, Dumais, Gaucher, Gunler, Pervalov
Ufko, Benning, Del Mastro, Peart, Grudinin
More potential for Gagner here than Spooner imo. He did have 50 points in Columbus just 2 years ago and is only 29.
