Signing Harper + the other additions this offseason is going to sell a lot of merchandise and tickets which in turn could make Trout affordable which in turn could create a dynasty team resulting in mega merchandise sales and sell out crowds and a good possibility of chanpionship(s). Money makes the world go round. Have to spend it to make it.

Unlikely I know, but not impossible. Would be really cool to see happen.

There is a cap. And the Luxury tax in baseball is really strong actually.
Year 1 of going over the cap. 20% tax penalty
Year 2 of going over the cap. 30% tax penalty
Year 3 of going over the cap. 50% tax penalty

Cap is 206mill this yr, 210mill the yr Trout would be available. Lets say Philly would sign Harper, then Trout. They have roughly 40mill in cap space right now, and they have Arrieta and McCutch contracts raising each yr and then a bunch of other nonsense that can happen between now and 2021. But lets just say in 2021 the Phillies have ~40mill in cap space.

Harper signs this yr at 32.5mill/yr. The Phillies have 7.5mill in cap space in 2021. Trout signs at 35mill? 40mill? They go over by ~30mill, 20% tax yr 1 = 6mill in taxes.
yr 2 ~ 30mill over the cap, make it simple = 9mill in taxes
yr 3 ~30mill over = 15mill in taxes.

You can go 1, maybe 2 years over, but the second you go over the 3rd year, you're paying like a Number 2 pitcher in taxes. Yeah they can manage it, maybe they go over just the 2nd year, and I haven't really looked into what players will earn as raises go, but that 30mill over, might actually be 40mill in reality.

Its considered a 'soft cap' where you can go over it and then just pay luxury tax. Whereas the NHL is a hard cap... there is no going over it.

On another note, what time Monday are we starting the draft? In other words, when is JX3H around to make pick 1?

I think anytime on Monday he's ready is fine by me. As long as people PM the next person on the list.

That said, I agree about visibility. I feel the new members of the group should try to be visible on here as well, as being active in addition to managing a team makes this league better, and the forums in general.

Yes, has there been any contact from the new members to make sure they are still available. Would suck if Monday rolled around and we get through 0 picks because of someone being MIA. It happened in the mock football draft his year... it sucks! haha

Yes that's my worry as well. Being a forum league with active members, hopefully it would encourage them to be more active themselves. Like DusterDave said, the guy with the first pick hasn't posted on here yet.
