he got married 6 weeks after the Leafs drafted Matthews, meaning they were the worst team in the NHL. MOST players at that time would have said f--- that, then.
I doubt this is really relevant....just kind of interesting.
Was talking to a buddy who is from Woodstock and has a buddy who is cousins with Muzzin. He said that Muzzin supposedly HATES the spotlight and loved playing in LA. He also said that on Muzzin's wedding day he was asked what his thoughts were on playing for the Leafs someday.....Muzzin's response was "f*ck that".

Pretty, much means he won't re-sign, unless it's a great offer.
All he has to do is not mess up any small play, there's no pressure there right?

I think the small market / big market preference is blown out of proportion. The reality is people want to play for winning teams.
When Muzzin was drafted, we were in the gutter. Now, everybody wants to play for Toronto.
I can't say he will re-sign but what's important is we'll have him for 2 playoff runs which is a decent window.
He's wearing Aki Berg/Carlo Colaiacovo number 8.

Muzzin played with JT, Ennis, and practiced/played over the summer with Kadri.
Here's a video of Muzzin getting interviewed yesterday:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0wLEGFeCeo
comments on how he's only played on the left. But he's played with someone who shoots left playing right. Which is big because it looks like Muzzin is playing left and Rielly playing right. Knowing how to pass to a lefty on the right side on D is big. The bounce passes off the boards and such become different with D and what way you shoot.
Left Wing Lock has him on PP2 with Gardiner (Marleau-Johnsson-Nylander-Muzzin-Gardiner).

I see him as if he's your 2nd pair D, you have really good top pair, or if he's on your top pair you better have strong forwards. He's like just not their for a top pairing on 31 teams, but he's def at least in 31 teams 2nd pairing.
But, he's what the Leafs need. He's 1 of 5 D-men in the league with 20+pts and 100+ hits, he has like 90blocks, his defensive point shares (kinda like dWAR in baseball, still needs to be refined in hockey though) is top 8 in the league. He's mobile, has a slap shot, and adds toughness.
I think it's just big because it's what everyone was saying the Leafs need. But I'm part believing this is just going to show how poor the wingers for the Leafs are in their own zone on the boards. They're undersized, so if you get on them quick, they just can't get the puck out with control. But if you get it to the Leafs forwards with their backs to Andersen (skating forward), they're out of the zone. If they're facing the pass and get pressured, they just don't seem to consistently get it out.
However, Muzzin does help their inability to combat the cycle. You eliminate those 45s-1min shifts in your own end, it has massive ripple effects on the lineup's energy for the rest of the game.

atthis point hes getting as much hype as the JT trade though, its hilarious (sickening) how much air play this is getting...like really?! ill admit i dont like teh Leafs, never have...TSN is getting almost unbearble to watch and with the Leafs getting good its worse. This was just the final straw for me though. oooh first practice as a Leaf..big whoop.
LOL. i get it tough..its Leafs Nation, TSN is based inTO...whats a guy to do..

I find people who watch TSN who take the 1hr highlight news as 100% factual and the end-all-be-all are Leaf fans and not hockey fans who root for the Leafs. Bob McKenzie and the Hockey Insiders tend to be more grounded, but still clearly broadcasting to the fans to boost ratings.
I hate when the older guys at work come up to me and spit out what they heard on TSN the night before and are now saying "LEAFS HAVE AMAZING D NOW, THEY WON'T SUCK AT D!!!". I feel like a babysitter by constantly reminding them defensemen aren't the only ones responsible at preventing goals. Preventing goals happens in many ways. Toe Dragging as the last man back at the opponents blue line is not a way to prevent goals. But people blame the D.
2 things I try and keep in mind when it comes to TSN:
-There's more Leafs fans than Hockey Fans who root for the Leafs
-Grain of salt. Grain of salt.
