Love the deal for the Leafs. We didn't get him cheap by any means, but they had to make this move. Amazing they didn't have to give up any of their top 6 forwards.
To me, Grundstrom is an ideal 3rd liner who could play in the top six as a complementary player. Doesn't have huge offensive upside (likely to be a 50-point player) but is the type of player coaches and fans love.
Durzi has some definite risk but he has nice offensive upside. He was eligible for the AHL but was sent back to the OHL mostly because the Marlies had too many defensemen, so there was no room for him.

Now.... to improve that Zaitsev/Gardiner pair

Is Radko Gudas a realistic target? Like Muzzin, he is still under contract next season. His AAV is $3.3M ($1.2M remaining for this season) so they can fit him in for this season. And the cost to acquire him would be significantly cheaper than Muzzin I would think, and he of course is a right-shot/right-side player. If Muzzin is Gardiner’s replacement next season, Gudas would be Hainsey’s. I’m sure Dubas will want to hold onto that 2nd Round Pick so we’d be talking prospects or future picks here.
that's the name I've heard the most over the past few weeks. Even moreso than Muzzin. Yeah, he'd come significantly cheaper than Muzzin as well. I would think someone would be moved out on the blueline in order to bring someone else in.
Maybe there's someone out there that really likes Zaitsev & his potential if given PP2 time.

I'm not sure he's all that realistic. For one, the Leafs probably aren't adding salary this season so they don't end up with bonus overages. Also, most of the scuttlebutt is that the Flyers want to bring in another veteran D to insulate their young guys. Not sure how subtracting Gudas fits that plan in Philly unless you're overpaying and if you look at what Toronto did in this Muzzin deal, you have to figure overpayment isn't part of the plan.
