    Default Move Laine for depth?

It's a 12 team keep 5 espn H2H points league (with a somewhat complicated points system awarding points for a whole bunch of things).
    Top 11 are: Rantanen (368), Kucherov (367), Giordano (367), Mack (360), Ovi (359), Burns (356), Gaudreau (344), Landeskog (338), McDavid (338), Wheeler (329), Lindholm (320)
Top Goalie is Fleury with 301.

I'm currently tied for first. 1st in the regular season gets their buyin ($20) back, playoff runner up gets their buyin back, playoff winner gets the remaining $180.

    I'll be keeping (total points/ppg):

    McDavid (337.7/7.3)
    Karlsson (295.8/6.3)
    Andersen (246.8/8.0) - #3 ranked goalie

    Then two of
    Hedman (235.3/5.9)
    Laine (217.8/4.7)
    S. Jones (207/5.3)
    Wilson (189.9/7.0)
    Trocheck (105/5.8)
    Lindholm (319.7/6.7)
    Marchand (300.4/6.5)
    Kreider (257/5.6)

Realistically, it's between Marchand, Lindholm, Hedman, Laine, and possibly Trocheck.

I could quite likely get a solid bit of depth for Laine - something like Byfuglien (236/7.4) and one of E. Kane (288.2/5.9) or Guentzel (255.1/5.5) for Laine & Pulock (187.3/4.2).

Will I regret that? With Laine's enigmatic season, would I even keep him over Hedman/Lindholm/Marchand?

Should I pursue a move like that? Any thoughts on last two keepers?

    Thanks

I think it's highly unlikely that you'd get a better keeper option than Laine by trading Laine. Whether to keep him over the other players you listed is a much tougher question. I depends a lot on whether you think Lindholm is for real, since if he is then he's a slam dunk keep.

Re Lindholm - yeah, I'm trying to watch a few Flames games to get on read on him.

Re Byfuglien & Kane: I'd almost certainly keep Laine over either of Byfuglien (age/injuries) & Kane (upside) if I had the choice. Not sure what you mean by get a better keeper option than Laine for Laine.

FWIW - here's last year's points output for some guys:

    Hedman (531.8/6.9) 2nd overall
    Marchand (458.9/6.8)
    Jones (461/5.9)
    Laine (437.2/5.3)
    Trocheck (506.9/6.3)
    Byfuglien (453.5/6.6)
    E. Kane (418.8/5.4)
    Lindholm (278.4/3.4)

Last year's stats say to me that Hedman's a lock, and then it's one of Marchand/Laine/Lindholm, where each has issues (age/inconsistency/sample size).

    Thanks Riz

What I meant was if you trade Laine, I'm not sure you will get - in return - a player more worth keeping than him. Or to put it another way, what he will get you in return likely won't be better than he is, especially with limited keeper slot options.

Do you view either of Byfuglien or E. Kane as better keeper options in a limited keeper?

Than Laine, no. Laine and Hedman would be my two picks as other keepers.

The key question is whether or not Laine is one of your 5 keepers. If yes, then don't move him. If no, then absolutely explore moving him this season. He's having a down year (relative, I know) but you are tied for first, and sometimes you need to make a big deal to go all in for the title. If you're not keeping him, float him out there and see what the best return you can get is. If it's a deal that will help put you over the top this season, then it's absolutely worth doing. If your league doesn't want to trade more than a bucket of pucks for him, then hold tight and keep battling for first.

For my money, Hedman is definitely keeper #4 and I'd give a serious look at Lindholm as #5 (given his young age and the potential to keep putting up this year's career numbers for years to come if he says on the CGY top line...and I don't see why it wouldn't right now.)
