Possible I'm missing something, but I thought this was the main reason they were meeting early, so the fact that it's been scrapped so early tips me off that negotiations started very poorly.

I won't believe that we escape without a work stoppage until I see it, but I do think this could be a sign for optimism. You take the World Cup off the table for that year and that's one less imminent thing to fight over.

I see it as a positive. No one gives a damn about the tournament and it being canceled makes me think that both parties will be working towards an Olympic agreement, which is something that seems to be very important to the players.
