Dilemma with Mikko
So I have a pretty great roster in my ten team league due to acquiring draft picks over the years and trades. Now we are going to change our league around next season and instead of it being a keep 3 10 man league we’re going to make it a 12 man league with an expansion draft. So the 10 of us will choose 2 players from our rosters to protect during the expansion draft, and then after the expansion draft we can choose our final third keeper from our original rosters. The expansion draft will be two teams choosing two players each. I want to obviously build around McDavid and Mackinnon, but also have thought about mackinnon/rantanen as well as McDavid/rantanen. I know whoever I don’t choose will end up being taken in the expansion draft. An owner offered hellebuyk and a draft pick for rantanen... if I do that I’ll get the chance to keep McDavid/mackinnon and possibly hellebuyk with a high draft pick on top of that. What do you guys think? Sorry for the long post lol

Why don't you win the league this year first and then worry about blowing up your team? McDavid and Rantanen are the obvious keepers right now as both could finish 1-2 in year end scoring.

You can't make that decision of Rantanen or Mackinnon until after the season ends. What if Rantanen is an unexplainable force of nature and ends the season at his current pace with 136 pts and outscores the closest guy by at least 20 pts? Thus you cannot make any moves until after all the chips fall at the end of the year.

Rantanen plus picks for helley buck is intriguing in this format and without forward positions counting I lean Mackinnon over rantanen but as mentioned that could change if rantanen somehow continues his torrid pace. Team McMacK has a nice ring to it.
It's a good problem to have and don't be in a rush to make a decision. Do you have a trade deadline or can you move one in the offseason before the draft?

Don’t try to be the smartest guy in the room (See: Minnesota Wild 2017 expansion draft).
Your league looks to be a very limited keeper, so play for this year and worry about the next one when it happens.
