I'm angry at Laine this year as picked Laine #6...and momentarily crying/annoyed as I look at Auston/MacKinnon lighting it up (was considering both at 6 if Laine didn't fall to me)....of course that's early season "UGHS HATE YOU" haha

Otherwise player I'm fearful of are the Bennetts, James Neal (who I feel is still over drafted because of his god mode years with Malkin) and the annual "whose Crosby's next winger/sleeper hope"

I have to say, Laine looks terribad this season. Can't handle the puck, turns it over any time he faces the slightest pressure, can't win a board battle, can't score or do much of anything at even strength. I got the impression last season that he is incredibly prone to swings in confidence and it looks even worse this season. He can't stay motivated for multiple games in a row and has no confidence in his game. If he's not standing in the circle on the PP waiting to clap a bomb he's contributing very little else to the lineup at the moment.

People also like to make the Fortnite jokes but I'm starting to think it's a legit distraction for him. Those who have tracked his Fortnite account have seen that he plays hours and hours a day and will be online immediately after games and late into the night.

Whether it's that or something else it looks like hockey is far from his mind right now. He appears lost. This is his 3rd season and he should be much further along in his development than he is, if anything he's taken steps backward since his rookie year with even fundamental stuff.

His deployment has been bad but last night he was finally given a chance with Scheifele and Wheeler and it lasted all of two periods. He looked awful (in fairness so did Wheeler but apparently he gets unlimited passes from PoMo). Probably doomed to second line minutes with Little for the rest of the season now.

I'm not in 'sell' territory yet but for the first time since I've owned him I can't say he's on my untouchable list anymore. I'm going to be patient with him (unless there is something out there I absolutely can't refuse) but man, this kid is going to be a project for another year or two at the rate he's going.

Trotz is actually turning Brock into a good two way hockey player again ; something he lost somewhere along the way under weight .
