I'm more on your side of this than the other, but come on, it's a perfectly good metaphor. It points out the silliness of one of the major arguments against the wall (that it will hold people in instead of out)

To be clear, I wasn't saying it would hold people in instead of out. I was saying using the cost of illegal immigrants in the US as a justification for the cost of a wall doesn't make any sense.

In terms of keeping people out, it's 2019. A wall isn't keeping anyone out, or in. A ladder, a tunnel, etc. etc.

Walls keep people in prisons because you also have guards who have line of site on the walls at all times. If you just had a prison with good walls and guards checking in once a day to make sure everyone was still there, you'd have a pretty serious retention problem.

At best, the effect of a wall is symbolic but not functional. Is the best approach doing nothing? Of course not. However when faced with the options of A) Build a wall or B) do nothing, with no other options, in 2019 and moving forward option B is better than option A.

If Trump said covering your eyes and screaming 'I can't hear you!' was the magic fix for border security, would we not be able to ridicule this notion? Well a symbolic wall is even worse because of it's exorbitant cost to the tax payers.

It is not up to us here in this forum to come up with a fix to a problem that has vexed and eluded numerous presidential administrations before this one, but we sure as hell can ridicule an obviously ineffective idea that comes directly out of our pockets.
