I certainly wasn't expecting a massive 7-year extension. This could end up being a really solid deal, but that remains to be seen.

Ugh. Wasn't expecting this in my cap league. Was expecting a bridge deal around $3-3.5m AAV. If he can produce 40-50pts annually and run the PP1, it's a great deal. Not so certain on that though. He hasn't even played a whole NHL season. It's a gamble. Only time will tell if it's a good one.

Looks like a steal to me. I remember when my Habs could have signed Subban long term for 5-6m and they gave him a bridge contract. Pk won the Norris the following year and ended up getting 8y/72m!

Theodore isn't winning a Norris in the next couple years though.
This will probably still end up a bargain as the years go on.

It's reasonable with how defenders are paid today with an inkling into the future. Still a lot of term to lay out for someone unproven. I'm surprised it wasn't either a 2 year bridge or even something in the middle like a 4/17m type deal

The good thing though is, if he doesn't pan out to be a top 2 D, being a 3/4 making 5-ish mill/yr is still a VERY good contract.

If he turns out to be a 5/6D-man, you can hide that cap hit with some luck.

I like these deals. It's worth the risk in my eyes.

I'd say lowers his shot, but they still have that #5/6/7 slot open for the taking.

On paper, one of the worst deals of this summer, especially since it came so late and thus after the market had been set. Theodore should buy Schmidt dinner for life, because Schmidt's absence likely made this deal happen, and helped the amount.

Vegas doesn't have a strong D-Lines and it was a big advantage to Theodore agent in negociation.
I also expected a Montour contract, but Theodore is alone there and will play a lot of minutes with Vegas.

In which case, Vegas wins.. The player also does well here, getting to invest a lot of it earlier in his career. #compounding
