Default who to draft first? proven players vs super hyped rookies

Keeper salary cap league, in a pts league (values in signature and players retained from last year).

Our draft is coming up. Like everyone would in an ideal world, I am competing this year, but want to have an eye to the future.

Using actual nhl cap hits, who would you draft between these players:

These are the guys who will likely be available to me when its my turn to pick

    PROVEN EXPENSIVE PLAYERS:
    Benn 9.5
    Malkin 9.5
    Giroux 8.28

VALUE PLAYERS (obviously depends on what you spend the saved money on...)
    Trochek 4.75
    Marchessault 5
    Rakell 3.79

    SUPER ROOKIES on ELCs
    Dahlin
    Petersson
    Mittelstadt

There are no right answers, just wanted to get opinions...

Benn is the safest pick I think. The last time Malkin had back to back 70+games was in 2009!That’s the main reason why I take Benn over him.I really like Trocheck here. He’s a solid pick for your league at a reasonable price. On the rookie side , I think Pettersson is the most ready.

Troch #1 - half the price of Benn and 90% of his production.

All 3 Value Players will give the best Pts/$. Rakell/Troch/March in that order.

Malkin/Giroux/Benn after that and the Rooks afterwards where I'd recommend Dahlin/Mittelstadt/Pettersson.

I'd go with the value players. If you can get 2 of them at the price of expensive star, you are in great shape.

If those are the guys available. And you have the first overall pick. Who do you take?

Ended up taking Pettersson. Recent article stating the good, the bad, the likely sold me. Trocheck and rakell will very likely outperform EP this year. But it's a keeper League and having EP over the next 3-5-8 years on my team too much to pass up

Thanks. Ended up taking JT Miller with my next pick.

Dobber is high on him, but the forum doesn't unanimously agreed on Miller's upside. We'll see.
