Marchand didn?t go after Eller for celebrating, he went after Ellet for taunting the bench... not arguing semantics here, there?s a bug difference between celebrating and taunting.

I don?t mind a celebration after a goal, even up 7-0. But taunting the opposition bench at that point in the game is a little ridiculous

It's a strange way to get entertainment, but to each their own.

Nobody "blamed" Ekblad - some simply pointed out that he's a grown man, and grown men should understand that if you hack a guy all night... especially a nasty guy with a short fuse... he's eventually going to get fed up and make you accountable for your actions.

Same thing with Eller. If he wants to taunt a bunch of proud professionals in a 7-0 game, go for it. But expect a nasty response. And nobody should be surprised or appalled when the response comes. Marchand may be a terrible person, but he did the right thing here, 100%.

Now, what the hell are you people arguing against? If you're saying 'he got what he had coming', 'he should have expected it', or 'he knew what he was doing'. Then you are BLAMING HIM for inciting physical punishment onto himself, under the very definition of the word blame. Whether or not he is a victim is another story, but typically unwanted physical contact necessitates a victim.

Lots of people here are complaining that some of us are just arguing semantics and being picky, but this is predominantly an English speaking forum. We can't have rational discussion if we don't agree on the basic definitions of words, so yes, semantics are important.

Providing context does not necessarily mean one is assigning blame. Blame means someone has to be responsible for this, yes, but maybe they both are, or maybe neither is.
People should be allowed to provide some context without being labelled "victim blamers."

I agree with this statement. Just like somebody should be able to say "Women shouldn't have to face sexual harassment on a daily basis", without being labelled a Social Justice Warrior...

I stand by my statement Rataylor. If you are gonna chirp a team in front of their bench after scoring in a 7-0 trouncing you better be prepared to back up that taunting with your fists. Ellers is 6"2, 200 pounds. Marchand is 5"9 180 wet. Man up if you want to play that style of mocking and jeering hockey. Ellers should have know he was gonna get targeted after that little display. We teach our kids not to do that sort of thing.

PS- Auto correct changed Ellers to Ehlers. Pretty sure it was self evident who i was talking about.
