It's amazing how many times I come into a thread and go straight to the last page hoping that I can just read a couple posts and understand, and find out that I would need to go back about 5 pages to find out where the argument started and how the hell we got all the way here.

About a week later Marchand suckerpunched Eller for overcelebrating a blowout goal
Select people lauded Marchand's toughness, leadership, class etc. for "putting that Euro in his place" and defending his team's honor
Other people pointed out it was probably bullshit and you can't suckerpunch someone celebrating a goal and if you don't like it don't let them score
Agree/disagree was if Eller wants to celebrate a 7-0 goal than he has to be "manly" and be prepared to fight someone because of it.
Months later, Eller challenged Marchand to a fair fight rather than one where Marchand could jump him and get the upper hand and Marchand wouldn't fight.
Same people will likely now say this is ok for....reasons....but apparently only some people need to accept the consequences of their actions. For reasons.

2) The incident was approximately half-way through the 2nd.
3) Marchand plays (approx) twice as much as Eller. He's a top line player on almost any team while Eller is a bottom 6 player on almost any team.
4) Marchand has fought more than Eller in his career.


Had it already been a blowout when the incident occurred, then I agree 100% that Marchand should have manned up and fought him.
But given the circumstances, he did what I would have wanted him to do if I was coaching him.

Exactly. Damn good 'reasons' for Marchand not to fight in this recent instance. It would help the team not at all and actually hurt their chances of winning the game.

And as I have said before, I am not at all a Marchand fan, but in the original altercation I believed he did the right thing for the team.
