You are presumably talking about your bench players here so I gotta ask, can you fit Thornton into your lineup? I would only drop Zykov for Thornton, and probably Zadina too (though who knows if he cracks the roster and gets a big role).

Jumbo Joe just became available in my keeper league. He was dropped after the draft. (he would be a rental player for me). Should I add him in place of one of my bottom 5 draft picks:
Zadina Zykov Duchene Buchnevich Marleau
My keeper core is already set before these draft picks and positional change wont impact my roster at all. So this add/drop decision is based solely on performance for this year alone. Who would you drop for Thornton, or would you stay put??

yes, I can fit him. I am well balanced with positions, so that's not a factor here
As long as he's healthy Thornton should outpoint Zykov. And presumably he'd still have his usual role on the PP1. His 5m contract was partly a reputation deal, but he's not sitting on the bench for that money. He should outpoint Zadina too, but with a blue chip prospect like that you never know.

Thanks for the input. I know it makes sense to make the swap for Joe. So I guess the decision becomes who to drop between Zykov and Zadina? Not as easy a decision perhaps..
It's a bit of a crapshoot. I think they're both likely to make the team, but Zykov is more likely to stick. Zadina can go down to the AHL and that could definitely happen. But Zadina has more upside too. It's a tough call. For me I'd drop Zykov first, but I'm curious to see if anyone else has an opinion on it.

Does anyone know how the 2 compare in peripheral stats?? (Especially because Thornton brings practically none)
From what I know of them I wouldn't expect much multicat prowess from Zykov or Zadina. Generally speaking I think we are dealing with 3 pretty soft players. I think Zadina will be more of a shot taker in the NHL than Thornton, but again it depends if he can stick in the lineup.

That's no a brainer to me. If he's healthy he outscores all the youngens

All players are keepers with a deprivaty system every year.
If healthy, his game has not deteriorated fast. Its based on vision and ability to protect the puck.
but I need to see him skate since that ACL/MCL injury on his OTHER leg

You made a good decision. Zykov was very impressive last year and I think he have more chance to succeed than Zadina for next season.
