Both had outstanding success last season. But both may have had their career years..we dont know. I'm taking Rant because of his linemates but we could certainly come back to this thread later and find Barzal had a better year.

No positional requirements, I'm taking Barzal here. I will preface this by saying that Rantanen is absolutely the real deal, and not just a product of Nathan MacKinnon. That said, Barzal put up massive point totals driving his own line (often against top competition despite Tavares shouldering a lot of that burden) as a rookie NHLer. Rantanen's production is a *bit* more dependent on linemates. Not a smear on his talent level or anything, but I like Barzal's prospects of dictating his own success going forward / long-term.
Also, I know this isn't objective analysis or anything, but ... have you seen Barzal's legs? He's got a couple of damn tree trunks coming out of his torso, sort of like a mini Crosby.

Long term I pick Barzal. This guy is the real deal....we might see some regression next year and Rantanen probably outpoints him next year but after that I think Barzal is the guy.

Ha I actually did notice that in a picture at some point! But great points mounD...I would also take Barzal. Nothing against Rantanen and he could very well outpoint Barzal next season but long term it's a different story IMO. Man is Barzal fun to watch skate.Originally Posted by mounD

Barzal put up all them points while being on a different line than Tavares so Tavares leaving don't really change much for me. Barzal is a franchise player and Rantanen is a very good complimentary player to MacKinnon.
