This is a 12 team mock multi cat league. Check out where he was drafted in it. There was also some discussion on the discussion thread about when people though he should go.
Title says it all really. One year league. Multi-cat accumulated scoring. 10 teams with 23 player rosters. Dress 6 D a night.
When do you reach for Dahlin (if you reach for him). What do folks project he puts up for points in his rookie season?

I think he'll go before I'd take him. I think. Rookies will be hard to predict, and rookie D even harder.
The forum mock draft is interesting, I agree.

I agree that in most leagues someone will reach for him well before he should go in 1 year leagues.
In a 1 year league I would probably avoid him all together to be honest
I'm definitely avoiding him in my two one year leagues. Both are also multi-cat w/ hits and blocks. I suppose it depends on the league, but I know for sure he will be taken too early in both considering the risk. For some reason many of the GMs just love reaching for rookies. I've seen multiple projections for him over 40 pts, but if I can get a proven 35-40 ish guy (Parayko as an example maybe?) along with guaranteed peripherals then I'm likely going that route.
I agree. I think anything over 30 points will be a success for Dahlin this season while likely putting up pretty poor hit and block totals to boot. Dahlin may get a few sniffs at PP #1, but unless Risto gets injured, or fails to produce for a significant period of time, Dahlin will be on the outside looking in while he gets the feel for the NHL.

In a league that size it wouldn’t be too unreasonable for him to be taken as someone’s 3rd D and perfectly reasonable as someone’s 4th.
Many rookie D with hype will get offensive zone starts and softer competition which helps them put up points. As a comparison, Ekblad put up 39 points in his first season and the 30th highest scoring defenceman this year scored 40. Dahlin is very likely to outscore Ekblad as a rook.
I could see someone reaching as early as their 2nd D but that’s too soon, late 3rd and beyond would be just fine.

1 year league I would let others draft him high. Decide where you think he should go and if he is around then pick.

Where do you normally like to take 50 pt forwards? Draft him in and around that spot.
In 2-3 years he goes first round.

I almost never draft rookies in one year leagues as the highly touted ones are always gone before I'm willing to take a shot. I might swing for the fences with my last or second last pick, but that's it. I prefer proven over potential in one year leagues. Money/winning is more important than looking like a genius by reaching for a potential rookie sensation.

Same here. In my 1 year points leagues there always seems to be that ONE guy who royally reaches on a prospect or a very good sleeper pick just for the 'ooos and awwwws'. I cant wait to see how high someone reaches on Elias Pettersson in my 1 year leagues with all the crazy Canuck fans. I'm anticipating 1st round.
I wouldn't draft him in a one year league for the many reasons stated above.
