The 4th best player has injury concerns and one year left on his contract. That's about all I can add here.
Knowing nothing about basketball, I of course look to rankings for help digesting this #Raptors trade.
So according to this we traded the 36th best plus a 1st rd pick for the 4th best? Nice!

Spurs have agree to trade Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to Toronto for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick, league sources tell ESPN. Trade call with league office is starting shortly.

apparently only days ago he had a meeting and was told he would not be traded. He didn't want to leave Toronto. It's hard to get basketball stars to stay. I don't see Leonard re-signing. If he walks in 11 months this is a really bad looking deal.

Yup... Lebron was out of the East.. I think the Raptors could have added in a better way.
Honestly if he walks or not the Raptors were treading water. Last year they laid an egg in the postseason again with what would of been their best shot at reaching a finals, part of the blame was DeRozan who rode the pine through some key moments. If this trade somehow puts them over the top even if it's just this year and they make the finals then its worth it. Sometimes you just need to push your chips all in. Basketball has become a ridiculous sport of musical chairs anyway.

Does this really make sense considering no one is going to beat Golden State anyways?
I also have limited knowledge in basketball, haven't followed in years, but this seems like a high price for a most definite rental.

Aint no one beating Golden State so this trade seems like a waste of Demar and the remaining years of his contract vs Leonard and his one year remaining on his deal before he jettisons for LA LA Land and the Lakers. I guess you have to try something.

If you think about it too, if Kawhi does leave after next year it just further amplifies the fact that star players don't want to come/stay in Toronto.
