The Calgary Flames have signed forward Elias Lindholm to a six-year, $29.1-million deal, the team announced Monday.

CAL signs Elias Lindholm 6x$4.85. No clauses

    ? Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) July 16, 2018

The contract carries a $4.85-million cap hit through the 2023-24 campaign.

The 23-year-old RFA was due a new contract, coming off a two-year bridge deal he signed with the Hurricanes. The Flames landed Lindholm?s rights, along with fellow RFA Noah Hanifin, in a trade last month which saw Dougie Hamilton, Micheal Ferland, and prospect Adam Fox head to Carolina in return. The signing of this new contract means the two sides avoid arbitration.

The Swedish centreman/winger is coming off the second-best season of his career, scoring 16 goals and adding 28 assists for 44 total points on the season ? his second straight year surpassing the 40-point plateau. He has registered a total of 64 goals and 124 assists for 188 career points in 374 NHL games over five seasons since being selected fifth overall by the Hurricanes in 2013, which is just one spot ahead of where the Flames drafted now-teammate (and possible upcoming linemate) Sean Monahan.

#Flames sign C Elias Lindholm to a 6-year / $29.1M contract. He led the Hurricanes with 112 assists since the start of the 2014-15 season.

Flames general manager Brad Treliving?s busy off-season continues, with a few more RFAs ? including Hanifin ? to lock up. Garnet Hathaway, Mark Jankowski, Brett Kulak and David Rittich also filed for arbitration.

Could be a bargain if he reaches the potential that people think he has.

That's a lot of cake for a very unproven player.. But if he comes into his own this could be a steal of a deal for the Flames!!

I'm betting he falls short of expectations because that's what he has done for the past five years.

The $$ shows they're willing to give him every chance to succeed in a top six role, but not that he's so overpaid as to guarantee a spot there should be falter

    Nice amount.
IIRC, a lot of guys drafted in the 4th-8th range overall take 5+ years to break out.
    Hopefully Elias does too.

There was a thread on guessing his signing amount.
I tried to find it... wanted to see if I got close.

the guy is good at the faceoff... but he will not steal the place of Monahan, so he will be 45 pts on the 2nd line ...

but Monahan will not be back at the beginning of the season ... so Lindholm will have a chance with Gaudreau ... buy low / sell high!

Thats a short term bump, assuming that's where Lindholm even starts.

    2 x $3M?

There's no evidence outside of anecdotal hope that he's actually a better player in any aspect of the game than Ferland. Bridge deal, if he "breaks" out (I'm skeptical), he's not going to cost much more anyways.

Agreed, there is no need for teams to sign absolutely everyone for so many years.
