Pretty damn good for Hellebuyck too, after one up-and-down season followed by one very good season. He could melt down and be useless the rest of his career and still be a very rich man.

Not that I think he will. I think he's a stud.

Indeed it seems like a terrific deal for the Jets. I can understand why he left some money on the table but why would he give them so many years? Anyway, it’s not like he’ll be hard up.

He'll be 31yrs old when the deals done. Little and Scheif will have their deals up at the same time, Ehlers 1 yr longer. Maybe he's thinking at 31yrs old I have 1 more contract in me till I'm done making top dollar, the teams gonna be very different come that yr, and no one except Ehlers is on a contract past yr 6. I would have done 5yrs, just based on me liking round numbers (ending at 30yrs old), but maybe he's picked 6yrs so he can win with the Jets, and get 1 more big contract after this ones done.

This is one of those deals that will look terrible from one side by the time it's over. Which side depends on whether what we saw from Helle last season is just the tip of the iceberg or a one-time fluke.

Compared to Price's $10.5M hit and $8.5 for King Henrik, $6M for 25 yr old Hellboy is an absolute steal.

Maybe I am in the minority but I dont like it. Too much for one excellent season. Teams like Pittsburgh and TB did it right with the bridge deals for their young studs.

I guess as Rizz says, this deal will either be a good deal in a couple years or an albatross. Time will tell.

True enough - he's had only one big season, but he has been a highly regarded prospect for years who put up excellent numbers everywhere he's played...including his NHL rookie season.

I dont think his rookie season was excellent at all. The best word I could use to describe his career prior to last season was inconsistent. Why do you think they brought in Steve Mason?

Kind of what I was getting at in my comment. Sure, if he keeps producing like last year then it is a great deal. Which I think he will. But if he doesn't... then it won't look like such a bargain.

He did well in his first season (.918 save%), then his second season was pretty poopy (.907 save%), so they brought Mason in. Now we'll see if 2017-18 Hellebuyck is the true Hellebuyck or if inconsistency will rear its ugly head again.
