The Arizona Coyotes and defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson have reportedly agreed in principle to a contract extension, according to 98.7 FM Arizona?s Sports Station?s Craig Morgan.
Per the CBA, the deal can?t be signed until July 1 when free agency begins.
UPDATE: The dollar amount is not yet known, but a source told ArizonaSports.com on Sunday that the extension is for two years, putting Hjalmarsson under contract through the 2020-21 season.
The defenseman has one year left on his previous contract with a cap hit of $4.1 million.

His game went down precipitously in his last year with Chicago and he was injured for parts of last season. I can see the end coming fast for Hammer. His game will not age well when he loses a step. Plus, he has taken a lot of abuse over the years. As a Hawks fan, I will always be thankful for what he brought to their Cup-winning teams. The guy is a warrior.
