I think Pittsburgh would want a lot more back for a player like Kessel. Unless people are still that high on Domi, but I think you're looking at a 55-65 point player.

There was a rumor of Domi & 5th for Pacioretty a few weeks ago.

Personally I'm hoping he stays put in Arizona, that way I don't feel so bad about trading him to you GinFizz

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe some picks + or prospects.

Isn't Kessel playing on that 3rd line you speak of most of the time? Maybe I'm wrong.

But if so...I'd hardly call him buried.

TBH i have no idea, i dont watch many Pens games, and maybe 3rd line in PIT is better than 2nd line in ARZ?

I would suggest that the 3rd line in Pitt is better than the 2nd line in Zona... but I'd also argue the line flourishes because of Kessel being on that 3rd line, rather than Kessel benefiting being on it. Not sure Domi with Sheary/Sheahan has the same results as Kessel with Sheahan/Sheary... (which is essentially...I hate to say it... not much different than Kessel with Bozak and JVR... T.O.'s 1st line...back in the day....eshhhh).

..yes, i see your point. and you are likely correct in saying that Kessel makes teh line turn. which kinda goes back to my point, that this really doesnt help Domi much...in fact i would argue it hurts his fantasy value, IF you take teh team away from the equation..

If Kessel is replaced by Domi their "third line" won't be leaned on as heavily because it won't be as good. It was leaned on the way it was because of Kessel.

Bingo. Last year it was Sheary/Sheahan, the year before it was HBK with Hagelin/Bonino. Common denominator.. Fat Boy Phil!

I still think Kessel is going nowhere. If he does go, they'll probably find another right-handed shot for the PP. Might be Sprong, might be someone else.

Domi is better suited for 2nd PP duties anyways.
This is very interesting. I didn't think about the right-handed shot issue when I suggested maybe Domi would replace Kessel on the 1st power play unit. It makes much more sense that Pittsburgh find a right-handed shot, if Kessel is traded.

Sprong is talented, but I have a hard time imagining Pittsburgh using a rookie on the top PP unit.

The need for a right-handed shot also suggests Guentzel isn't an option either.

This makes me think they aren't likely to trade Kessel, or if they do they will want a right-hand, top 6 forward in return.

I was thinking at one point that they could trade Kessel for picks/prospects and then use the freed up money to go after someone in free agency. However, looking at the list of free agent forwards, there are very few right-handed players available. We are talking about Bozak, Vanek, and Perron. Ugly.

I don't see Kessel going anywhere.

I keep trying to think of some right-handed, top 6 forwards on the market right now...so far all the players I can think of shoot left...Hoffman, Skinner, Pacioretty, VanRiemsdyk...

    ...Kovalchuk shoots right.

I think you are right. Of course when the team finally has a disappointing playoff run everyone freaks out and rumors start.

Wasn't Rick Tocchet the "Kessel whisperer" or some BS? Now that I think of it, wasn't a Kessel to the desert rumour around last off season as well?

Also, I don't see it discussed around here but Sprong won't clear waivers this fall, will the Pens want both Kessel and Sprong in their lineup? I'd think one of them gets moved.

yup and Tocchet was the main reason why... someone else in Pitts must be a Kessel whisperer too because he just had a career year without Tocchet
