Carolina most likely reached for him too early. Probably doesn't become more than a #4 defenseman which is still very good but not what you'd want from a #7 pick. I don't see him doing much for you in fantasy hockey leagues. Better real life player.
Been doing my diligence on Carolinas first round pick Hayden Fleury. Didn't have a great season last year and I don't think he's panned out how the hurricanes has thought thus far.. he's only 21, is he worth giving a shot on? I feel like he's still got more to prove at 21 years old.

He fits well with the other 'Canes Dmen... good in real life but uninspiring in fantasy realms. I never saw him as 40+pt dman and always steered clear.

Not a big fan of Fleury. Is Jake Bean available?
I think he will be a very good NHL Dman, not quite as much of a good fantasy Dman.

So, I'll give everyone more info on my league.. may be smart to do that on a separate thread.. I am a rebuilding team. So long term success would be preferable. Here is the point structure in my league for D men.
We will be using the following point system...
Defence points:
Games Played = 1 point
Goals = 15 points
Assists = 8 points
Penalty Minutes = 1 point
Power Play Goals = +5 points
Short Handed Goals = +10 points
Overtime Goals = +10 points
Hat Tricks = +10 points
Hits = +0.5 points
Blocked Shots = +0.5 points
Enforcers/Utility (D/FWD):
Games Played = 1 point
Goals = 5 points
Assists = 8 points
Penalty Minutes = 2 points
Power Play Goals = +5 points
Short Handed Goals = +20 points
Overtime Goals = +10 points
Game Winning Goals = + 5 points
Hat Tricks = +10 points
Hits = +0.5 points
Blocked Shots = +0.5 points
That is a very weird point structure. If you have the choice between Bean and Fleury, you have to go with Bean. I would imagine this league uses a farm system where you will be stashing one of these guys? If so, it wouldn't hurt to hold onto Fleury and monitor his season. If there is no farm system, you obviously aren't going to waste a roster spot on either of these kids.
