    Default Keep 5 help

Hey all, I am starting to think off-season for the team in my sig.

Right now I have my keepers as Sequin, Pavs, Buff, Subban and Doughty.

I am wondering though if I trade a D or two for picks in the 1st or 2nd round and keep an E. Kane (especially if they get Tavares) or a Provorov (man is he a stud) - even a guy like Dubois is gold in my setup.

I don't have a goalie because I dropped them both (Vasi included) to ensure I won the finals - forfeited goalie cats to secure enough player cats.

The strength of my team was the depth and the multi-cat ability of the majority of the roster (guys like Hornqvist).

Thoughts about my keepers, trades etc are welcomed.

    Thanks in advance

I wouldn't keep a goalie in a keep 5 twelve team league and this is amplified by you being able to drop your stud goalies and win your league by locking up other cats. Well done.

I also don't really want to keep 3 d in a keep 5 but you have good ones so it's tough.

In shallow keeper leagues the picks have alot of value so I'd be fine moving a d to upgrade picks. Then the question is Provo or e Kane. I think I lean Provo as I trust Kane less. I wouldn't be opposed to moving two of your stud d though depending on the pick return. I mean if you can get two first round picks for two of your defensemen your team is going to be very deep right away. I like that for the repeat.

I'd keep Barkov over Pavelski and Doughty.

I wouldn't keep Evander Kane with those options. He 's trade bait, but nobody will likely want to keep him, either.

I'd definitely explore dealing a defender you have in bold as a keeper to keep Provorov or Barkov or both.

Barkov with FOW as a cat is basically a mandatory keep. I'd swap a D for him. I can't justify 60% of my keepers being Dmen

    Thanks all for the input.

I am a little surprised by the love for Barkov - don't get me wrong, he is a stud. It is just that C is such a deep position and he doesn't really move the needle in blks, hits or pims.

D was one of my strengths last year, having 3 of the top 4 D based on our leagues Yahoo rankings - when you need hits and blocks it really helps to have guys getting you those that can put up assists and ppp as well.

As you can see, I am torn

you can get a McNabb or Boroweicki cheap to fill those cats. It's hard to get a Centre that will give you 80pts and 900 face off wins (54%)

Definitely time to drop Pavelski (I think he loses another step this coming season -- ~60 points) and keep Barkov in his place (that or drop Doughty).

Barky should be barking his way into the 80+ point territory next season (sheeeit he hit 78 last season) and hold steady for a while.

Might also be worth flirting with the idea of keeping Dubois over Doughty. Up to you.

Seems like you have 3 or 4 borderline keepable players that one of the other teams in your league would love to have. Perhaps you can swing a deal and upgrade picks in the next draft...

But at the end of the day you know your league best and none of us truly know what the future holds for these guys! We can all only guesstimate really.

    Good luck with your decision.

So what I just did was I traded Doughty, Subban and Seguin for McDavid and two 1sts (3rd and 6th overall).

I'll likely now keep McDavid, Buff, Pavs, Provorov and one of Dubois, Barkov or E. Kane.

Very happy with how this turned out as in a 12 team keep 5 both those 1sts should be quality players.

Bravo. Why would anyone trade away McDavid in a keep 5 league? And two first round picks to boot?!? Very well done!
