1st year dynasty league prospect draft: goalie rankings

Hi there,

I'm in a 12 dynasty/cap H2H points league that's just starting up and is doing a 7 round prospect draft. (future years are 3 rounds)
23 man main roster (20 starters, 3 bench) with unlimited prospect roster.
Eligibility is any player who's played fewer than 82 games so there will be some great talent in this initial draft...including goalies like Hart or Sorokin.
League is heavy on G/A but goalies account for around 10% of total points coming mainly from wins and saves.
Prospect goalies carry a league minimum salary for 4 years and only count against the cap once called up so there's a great deal of value in having a good prospect in your lineup.

In regards to the goalies:
Which prospect goalies would you rank in your top 5 and at what point in the draft might you target one if at all?

Demko, Samsonov, Hart, Shestyorkin and Sorokin is my top five. I'd probably target Demko because he's closest. If he gets taken, I'd probably wait until one or two of the others are gone and then make sure I'd get one of the remaining ones because I see a big gap after those five. Difficult to put a number where I'd draft them but probably not in the top two rounds at least.

if its just games played as the filter you could look at Dell / SJS , Koskinen / EDM etc..

Ville Husso would be my #1 target. Thatcher Demko would be #2.

Husso over Demko? might be the 1st time I've seen that. Would love to see an expansion on why (I may have been overlooking Husso a bit?)

personally, I still have Demko as the highest upside.. Saros will give you the most value next season. After that - I can't bet against Demko. I'd have Husso 3rd of the 3.

That makes a lot of sense. And I'm not in a huge hurry as I'll have starting goalies on my main roster and can be relatively patient on the prospect side.

Neither Saros or Husso crack my top five. Obviously there are lots of good goalie prospects and you could add guys like Jarry, Gustavsson and DiPietro to the list as well. Heck, Ullmark is close to becoming a starter as well. I just don't see any of them having the kind of elite upside that my top five has.

With Saros and Husso, I think you're betting more on the team they play for than the player himself. And I understand that, lots of people like doing that. I just happen to think cream rises to the top regardless of their situation in the organization and the team in front of them (which can change from one year to another). It's just a bit of a different strategy than what many prefer using when it comes to goalie prospects. Not saying my way is the right way, it's just what I happen to prefer at this point of time.
