Acquiring First Overall

Thanks everyone! I just jumped on it and accepted the trade before he gets other offers or changes his mind!

now since I lost two of my D and gained one in Dahlin, is it worth shopping my 7th overall for a young nhl d-man to replace my open slot, or hold the pick to draft another top talent?

I honestly believe you just let him fleece himself. With pick 7 it depends on what you can get. Obviously the top 3 in the draft are Dahlin, Svechnikov and Zadina. After that I could see guys, in your league with a 2.5x bonus to D scoring, going after Hughes and Boqvuist. That could leave you with a Tkachuk or Wahlstrom. Wait to see what happens at the draft and you can trade back or try to acquire some nhl talent.

Bit confused with your post/wording. If I understand right I think you mean I did good lol? I was the one RECEIVING #1 overall. I did accept the offer. So I shipped out Trouba/Theodore/McLeod/8th Overall pick. I got in return 1st Overall pick.

So with making that trade I now own #1 and #2 in the draft.

Yup that is correct! I have 1, 2, and 7.

I will be taking Dahlin and then either Zadina/Svech and then either maybe move 7 for a nice return? or keep it. I have picks beyond that as well bu they will be in the 30's (so 2nd round NHL picks).

I like pick #7. Two of Hughes, Boqvist, Wahlstrom, Bouchard and Tkachuk should be there. They're all excellent prospects with high upside, so don't sell that pick unless you get someone really good in return. This is why I wasn't too thrilled about giving away pick #8 either - you would have landed one of those guys with that pick as well. Picks from #4 to #8 are close to equal in your league with bonus for 'D' points, and PIM and hits being used which adds value to Tkachuk.

I wouldn't deal 7 unless someone is willing to give you a nasty, young D chip like McAvoy, Werenski, Sergachev, Provorov, etc.
You can grab a future stud D or another good forward in that 7 slot.
Unless you're blown away, keep the pick and own the draft.

16 teams will be our MAX. We will expand to 14 in 2020-2021 and then 16 probably two years later. Still a wise move to make you think? Roster sizes will stay the same. Only thing that MAY change is prospects jumping from 20-25. In this case the trade won?t damper my prospect depth

you are 2 years from first expansion 4 from another. Do it, by then Dahlin will bring you way more if you decide you need more depth. You also got 4 years to acquire more depth in various ways.

I would of loved to keep pick 8 as well and four picks in the top 8 but he was not budging. My next pick after 2,7,8 would of been in the 30's or future years. He finished last I think it was at 1-21 so he wouldn't make the deal. But by the looks of the comments I should keep pick 7 unless I get something real sweet back.

Yes you did very well, that was my point. You added an elite player without giving up any major piece IMO.
