I would agree with your assessment and rank Montour a tier ahead of Matheson in fact.
We have a debate me and my friend regarding these 2 defenseman to know who is the best between them to own in our keeper league. The format of our keeper counts 2 pts per goal for a defenseman et 1 pt for an assist.
This year Matheson made 37 pts and Montour 41 pts. I think Montour has more offensive upside and will manage more points than Matheson.
What do you think?
Waiting to hear from you.

I would agree with your assessment and rank Montour a tier ahead of Matheson in fact.
I also prefer Montour talent wise over Matheson.
My big concern for Montour is the Anaheim Ducks forwards... they are getting old and if they get older and slower and can't score as much... Montour's assists will decrease.
Matheson has a nice group of young forwards entering their prime so he might benefit from it.
In a vacuum I would pick Montour... but If I really analyze their situations more deeply I might be persuaded to keep Matheson.
I think we only saw the tip of the Iceberg with Montour this year. He had a solid +16 which is solid and will earn him more and more minutes from the coach.
Another vote for Montour.
Montour all day

It's not all that close to me either, Montour by a decent margin.

I might end up being way off here but I always felt Matheson is overrated as a point-producer. He plateaued early in College and never looked like a star at any level pre-NHL. However he does have the skills to do some damage if he ever figures it all out.

I will be surprised in Matheson gets any votes, unless it's from a Florida-homer type!
I like Montour a lot more than Matheson.
I dropped Matheson early in the season then he made me regret it as he started to produce under my leagues scoring setup to be worthy as a 5-6 D .
definately take montour here but as always , league settings do matter so you have to weigh that too
heh... I traded Montour as part of a deal to get Kadri... later I traded a couple prosepcts to add Matheson. that spin-o-rama GWG he scored during the season sold me. I think Matheson is going to become a real point producer, it might be another two years for 50pts, but I really think he's got the talent for it. As my #6D, I can wait..

Right now I don't see Matheson as a big point producer despite showing some glimmers of offensive ability. More likely Montour takes off as a 40 pt guys whereas Matheson gets pigeon-holed into a two way role that results in 25-35 points most years.

Provorov is my #5, so I'm just loaded on D... Makar marinating as a prospect with Dermott kicking tires at Matheson's spot. A couple other good prospects - Mitchell, Hajek, Fox floating around to. It was more a matter of circumstance to trade away Montour and then trade for Matheson vs. who I believe has the higher ceiling. Value wise, I won both deals (IMO) which puts me ahead overall
