Let's all remember that Laine is still only 19. Everything about his game is going to get much better over time.

I think Scheifele was the best Jet on the ice last night. He didn't look phased by the moment in the slightest, and was solid throughout. Lowry was up there, too. That guy is built for playoff hockey.

    Yes.

Matthews has a nasty wrist shot that is as great as Laine's in close. The difference being, Laine can do it from further out - that's what blows me away about him. It's like watching game footage from the early-80's when players could beat goalies with awesome shots from distance. Today, mortals rarely beat goalies from long range with clean wrist shots. Laine is the exception to the rule.

    True point.

Ah, in terms of "goal scorer" I would agree with you. Ovechkin is one of the best goal scorers I've seen in my lifetime. In terms of goal scorers (volume, consistency, etc.) He's up there with Bossy, Hull, Lemieux, Bure, et al. What makes Ovie such a special goal scorer is not only his shot arsenal, but his hunger to score (very Rocket Richard / Phil Espositio like) and his size, strength, and speed. Ovie defines what a goal scoring machine is. And, forget about retirement, I already consider him among the top goal scorers in NHL history.

However, if I'm isolating just the "shot itself" I have Laine up there with Bossy, even ahead of Hull, Ovechkin, Bure. At this point, Laine doesn't attack the net or zone with ferociousness like Ovechkin, he does his damage from distance. If he wants to equal Ovechkin, he'll need to win multiple Rocket's and score an insane amount of goals on a consistent basis. That's no easy task. But, in terms of shot, I haven't seen anything like it since Bossy.

Last night Eddie O. said he honestly thinks Laine will score 60-70 goals in a season soon. If he were to somehow score 70 goals (or even match Ovie's 65), he'd be on his way to cementing himself among the great scorers.

Feels like tonight could be a dangerous game, with the upset in routine and the Wild's backs against the wall. Hope the Jets are able to bring their A game. I have a slight concern we could see less than that tonight.

Could have been a tweak in his hip. He's had work on it before. It was tough to tell what it really was. He went down a little funny, but it looked innocent.
