Question Tough Points-Only Keeper Decision: REP Given!

For the first team in my sig, who do you guys think should be my top 6 next year? The reason I'm asking now is that I have the option to trade Eichel away to my main competition for a couple high draft picks (Eichel's hurt and I'm barely outside 1st - it's a $120 drop from 1st to second). I have 6 other good keepers, which is why I'm considering it.

I'm thinking Kucherov, Karlsson, Klingberg, Scheifele, Benn, Seguin, and either Voracek or Vasilevskiy. Are those the right choices? Which of the last two would you choose? Are any of them so much of a drop off from Eichel that I shouldn't trade him away, which might save this season and would strengthen me and also weaken my main competition next season (but give him Eichel)? Thanks for your thoughts! I'll leave REP to all opinions.

EDIT: I forgot to include KUCHEROV in my original list. So looks like I'll have to leave 2 of these guys unprotected. Should it be Vas and Voracek? Anyone arguing it should be Benn?

Is there any way you can trade Eichel for parts that will help you get to first this year? IF I am trading a player like Eichel, I am wanting to make sure I give mylef the best chance at winning the big money this year.

That is a solid set of keepers, but Eichel in there looks nice too. I think you are okay you make the move if you really feel like it will help you. And you would have to keep Vasileskiy over Voracek. But if you can find a way to win this year without making the move that would be even better!

I'd be moving Eichel and a couple late rounders for Carlson and a 1st and 2nd. I've got too many C and not enough D right now. That's another reason why I might trade Eichel. I've got Scheifele, Benn and Seguin who are are C eligible, and C are a lot easier to replace in future drafts. Carlson is just a guy to make up the points I'd lose while Eichel is hurt (we have only two waiver wire moves all year, and mine are used up, so this injury really hurts - no pun intended).

I would go with your approach and keep Vas over Voracek.
Thanks! Part of why I might is because the other GM is such a good drafter, so I'm thinking if I can MAYBE win this year, plus start off next year with an extra couple high picks from him and he has to fill out his team with a couple really low picks, that could set me up good for next year. And my oldest keeper is Benn, who isn't exactly ancient... Still will sting a little though to trade Eichel, haha.

I think you have to find room to keep Vorecek, the guy is top 10 in scoring.

Do goalies get kept frequently in your league? How early do they go in the draft?

Most teams keep one goalie. I'm always torn, since they're so volatile from year to year potentially. However, Vas might be worth it, since Tampa is strong for years and in a weak division. I also have traded for a couple very high 1st rounders already (probably 2nd AND 3rd overall), so there's a really good chance I can get a couple of my bubble keepers back). Think Voracek keeps it up next year?

Normally dealing Eichel in a limited keeper is bad. However you do have a number of reasons to do it:

    1. He's hurt and you are in contention.
    2. You have more keepers than you can keep. I count 9: Karlsson, Klingberg, Eichel, Scheifele, Benn, Seguin, Kucherov, Voracek, Vasilevskiy.
    3. You have positional issues to remedy.

So you need to get something for one of those guys, and Eichel is the guy to trade. He's not helping you this year, he's at the deepest position, and you can get another very good player back and high picks. Plus you saddle the guy you are chasing with a 0 point guy he needs to keep.

    I'd do that.

Geez, I forgot Kucherov! So now I'm extra glad I traded for a couple extra 1st rounders. If this trade with Eichel goes through I'll have FOUR next year, as well as a couple 2nds and a couple 3rds. Should set me up nicely for next season, I hope.

TWIST TO IT ALL: I just got Dougie Hamilton from another GM for a slight, late pick upgrade. Is it still worth doing the Eichel trade now? Tough call just got tougher!
