I think this is a great move by management and I hope that more teams will follow suit.

Most teams don't do this because they're terrified of any kind of scrutiny. Well, people are going to scrutinize anyway so might as well be honest with the fans investing their time and money into the team. Thumbs up to the Rangers!

Canucks should follow suit. Fans can get on board with a rebuild if they know that's what the team is doing. They'll analyze moves better and adjust expectations.
I don't think the Leafs put out a letter to the fans, but Shanny did bring in the 'scorched earth' plan where the goal was to burn everything down and start completely fresh. Leafs fans jumped on board and started monitoring prospect development vs. team success.
Clarity is all you can ask for as a fan. Rangers have done that in spades to theirs.

I couldn't agree more. People want to feel like their club has a vision and a direction so that they can predict their own expectations for them. Managing the fan base's expectations through a necessary rebuild is the smartest thing they could have done.
That said I do feel it is a product of the times.. A letter like that in 1991 would have had the whole front office fired..lol
