I switched over to this plan yesterday. Live in Ontario.

My previous contract ended in October or November so I was just rolling month to month so perfect timing. I didn't sign another contract either.

I previously paid $155 for my wife and I, sharing 3GB of data between us.

Now pay $120 and we each get 10GB. Perfect!

Still way too expensive, I think there is a crack down coming from CRTC.

I am in a remote location and the only internet I could get was cellular (no wires to my house, satellite sucks). Through Telus I was able to get a mobility modem/router and a plan that gives me 500GB for $110 a month. So paying $60 for 10GB is still too much. Should be more like $10 for 60GB!

Im livid. Fido (who i'm with) also did the deal and i went in and their systems were super slow (obviously, not mad about that). I went at 345pm, didn't leave Fido till 6pm, and they kept telling me it went through, but i didnt get an email while i was there but i eventually left. Since around 4pm (i had to switch from a pulse plan, to a Bring your own phone plan and i did this around 4pm), my phone wasn't getting texts, was still sporadic all night and i ended up getting a bunch (not all) in at 2am this morning. I look on my account, I'm not at the 10gig plan still.

Also last night i tried their Facebook Messenger chat option, they said a rep would be with me in a bit, still no reply. I feel like a bunch of people are going to have this issue today of their plan not being switched.

Internet is cheaper than a phone bill throughout the world

Therein lies the issue. The difference between internet and phone is essentially non-existent yet prices vary drastically. I'm using the same infrastructure that a smart phone uses to get my home internet. They pay $60 for 10GB and I pay $110 for 500GB. I could probably plug the SIM into a cellphone.

Cells have satellites and much more complex equipment than cable internet that comes in from an already existing line.

A copper line transmits the signal more efficiently than air. So the cell towers technology is fair superior transmitting a signal to compensate.

Phone lines & coax are point-point, that means that total amount of capacity is vastly greater to share out. Wireless bandwidth is a scarce resource, a few Mbps are shared between everyone in a cell

Cellular can go further (higher power) but needs to buy spectrum & basestations are expensive. WiFi has cheaper basestations, no spectrum cost, but power is restricted so only short range. The balance between these two is complex, and it is "a bit of both" is best.

But Internet via Data Cellular signal is kinda like just accepted as a lower price, but with a lower speed because of the baseline internet costs. That's just my thinking.

I'm not sure we are on the same page here, I still don't understand why my data plan is $110/500Gb with a mobile service but if i have a cell phone its $60/10Gb since we are sharing a tower for the connection. I work in communications so I have some knowledge in this field. My speeds are limited to 25Mbps down and 10 Mbps up btw.

Regardless, I hope you get your stuff sorted out and that everyone can get cheaper data plans for their cell phones because its a bit of a gouge currently, just like charging for text msgs (this service costs them nothing).

Im saying, even though you share towers from home internet and phone, my guess is because typical home wired internet is cheaper (due to the reasons i said above) that they make data internet cheaper than phones? For what it's worth, i just did a speed test on my cell, 29.1Download, 2.6 upload. Maybe they limit upload speed on cells, which should make it cheaper...
