Off the coast of Florida in a small plane.
my mouth hasn't closed yet... shocking & sad. One of the best to ever wear a Jays uniform.

R.I.P. Roy. Seemed like a decent dude. 40 years old, way too young.

Always remembered him as a man of preparation. He was a silent leader. A guy everyone loved. Man this is sad.
And let’s not forget his wife and 2 boys left behind. Let’s give our loved ones an extra hug tonight. Life is too short.
Shocking. He'd really been enjoying family and retirement. Just bought that plane and had been flying it a lot. Back in the day Doc was money in the bank - guaranteed win
RIP Doc

What a sad story. He has to be ranked as one of the best pitchers to ever wear a Blue Jays uniform and play his best years with the club. Glad I got to watch him deal strikes to the opposition for so long. RIP Doc.

The plane he was flying was a newer model design which have been built since 2014. There were only 20 of these planes built but, there were 2 other crashes this year, one of which actually killed the planes chief designer and a test pilot. Crazy. A video is included in the link which shows the plane flying low just before impact, and the aftermath, which is even crazier.

The responders called 911 and waited for help to arrive. We spoke with other boaters in the area who told a similar story -- "dramatically increasing and decreasing in elevation."
Another witness says, "He was flying like that all week. Aggressively."
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the crash.
The news of this hit me really hard as silly as it sounds. It took me a couple days to fully get my head on straight again after hearing the news. Roy Halladay was easily my favourite athlete of all time, nevermind ball player.
I never met the guy, but Halladay meant the world to me growing up as a loyal Blue Jays fan. I would always look at the team's schedule to figure out what days he would be starting like a month in advance so that I could plan it out. I wasn't a pitcher either when I played ball growing up but it was just everything about him...the stoicism, the intensity, the work ethic, the attention to detail, and the professionalism. As so many people have said, he was like the one bright spot in an otherwise dark time for Jays fans...as we watched this team just lose game after game...filling the rotation with scrubs like Tomo Ohka and Josh Towers. But when Halladay got on that mound you went in expecting a W.
I think one of my very first baseball games i attended live (at least that I can remember) was back in 98 when he came one out shy of a no-hitter. I just remember how exciting it was. I remember going to watch him pitch countless times after that. I remember being in my university dorm room when I found out that he had been traded, and how bummed out I was that he was leaving, but happy that he was going to a real championship contender. I remember watching him complete that no-hitter in the playoffs with Philly while I was in the library, and the look everyone gave me when I shouted and stood up when he got that final out. I remember going to the game where he made the start for the Phillies against the Jays - his first start as an opposing pitcher in the SkyDome (mainly because of how Jon Rauch rag-dolled John Farrell).
One of the best gifts that my ex got me was a custom-made Halladay jersey in their royal blue colours (by far my favourite of their jerseys).
Anyway, thanks for all of the memories Doc. Thanks for setting a good example for millions of people while in the spotlight...which is so very rare in today's society, as well as in professional sport.
Edit: Can a mod please fix the spelling of his name in both threads please. It's not a big deal, but please and thank you.

Before i was a baseball fan i knew who the Doc was. Just shows you how big he actually was.
