Starting on the third line to "spread out the offense". I don't understand the mindset of some coaches/GMs. But, I guess, as in fantasy and the real world, there are good ones and the Dumbo Dans of the world. Hoffman on the third line....to quote Dr. Phil..."and how's that workin' out for ya?".
