It's hard to go wrong with Benn but Laine is the shiny new toy. Other owners will be all over you to trade Laine to them. The same could be said about Benn but what Laine did at such an early age has many comparing him to Ovechkin. In my opinion, Laine in a package deal to acquire a player like McDavid, would hold more appeal to a GM than Jamie Benn would. Benn does give you some FOW, and he may very well get you more points.

Benn should get you more points now beacuse of the FOW but he will eventually decline and Laine's value should continue to rise.

So take that for what you will.

New keeper, go with Laine, the rest are getting up there in age, as stated above Laine has upside, the rest have reached their upside and are going in the other direction now.

Between Laine and Benn for me.

(Giroux is the easy no here. Backstrom can be argued however ere strongly. I just wouldn't take him here myself due to peripherals, position, and age).

    Benn vs Laine
Shots - tie ish (I expect Laine to start taking more than benn this year tho)
    Hits - tie
    Goals - Laine
    Assists - Benn
PPP - Benn (Laine should creep up soon ish)
Points - Benn (for a few years)
Faceoffs - Benn (Laine doesn't take them)
Blocks - Benn but fairly insignificant

My head says Benn but my heart says Laine. Given the age it's probably close enough to go with the heart and i'd probably go Laine. Youth and potential is enough to push me over.

Tough call. Hate to pass up on Laine but I take Benn. Proven commodity, LW harder to fill than RW and F/O's from the wing.

Benn is you are drafting to win now (which you should be); Laine if you are one of the 25% of people who enter new leagues with the view of winning 5 years down the road (assuming the league is still going).

Probably Benn, but just to throw a monkey wrench Giroux was in the top FIVE in both PPP and FOW last season. But I guess you could bank on redrafting him, if you can.

Thanks everyone for the input. Agree with most of the insight here. I reached a bit and took Laine, gambling on his high upside and 50 goal potential. As luck would have it, there was a run of goalies and D after I selected him, and Benn is available now for my pick in the 3rd round so I can grab both of them......that worked out nicely indeed!

No kidding eh?! Got him with the 30th overall pick. Seems many managers are stocking up on goalies and dmen, there was a huge run after my Laine pick....very lucky. There's an outside chance Giroux or Backstrom may still be available for my 4th rd pick, only 4 picks before me and both are still on the board

This the the weirdest draft ever. It's my pick in round 6 and Giroux is still there. I know he's fallen off, but c'mon! I'm deciding between he and Pacioretty, but I could end up with all 4 players I was originally trying to decide between a few rounds back......so strange. Would you guys snag Giroux or Patches here? Best D options are Letang and Josi. My team so far is:

    Karlsson
    Laine
    Benn
    Backstrom
    Rask
