keeper league-already drafted-now choose how long

Hey folks! We just had a keeper league draft last night. This will be an ongoing pool, partially paid every year and the big payout will be every four years.

We drafted our teams last night and we will have to determine which of our players do we want to sign to extended contracts.

We will be signing 2 players to four-year contracts, 3 players to three-year contracts, and 3 players to two-year contracts. The other 12 players on everyone\'s teams will be drafted for this year only and will be available for drafting next year.

This is a pool with 12 managers going head to head. Here are the stat categories: G, A, P, +/-, PIM, PPG, PPP, SHG, W, GAA, SV, SV%, SHO

So, again, I have to sign 2 players to 4 year contracts. Which ones?

I have to sign 3 players to 3 year contracts. Which ones?

I have to sign 3 players to 2 year contracts. Which ones?

I won\'t have to decide until either the trade deadline or the end of the season, but I\'d like your thoughts on this right now. Of course, it\'ll be easier to pose this question, once we see a bit of their performances, so I may pose this very same question again towards my deadline for choosing.

Does it look like I should be dropping any of those players soon and scouring the waiver wire?

Where to start?
Well the positive here is your goaltending...
But...
I believe you have bought to much into the prospect kool-aid.

In a 12 team league, I think you should have more of a veteran presence.
I mean, will Filatov even make the team this year??
What I see is a potentially great team 5 years from now...

I can guarantee, you will not be very competitive this year, but the draft is done, and you have to go from what you have.

Therefore, I would recommend that you protect all your younger players, since that seems to be the direction that you wanted to head your team in.

Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the great advice. I knew right after the draft that my team would be a decent one in 4 years time. I understand my mistakes and as you said, the draft is already done. If someone such as Brunnstrom doesn\'t play, I guess I can cut my losses and drop him for someone who will put up some points. Beside the fact that I\'ve got a really young team, do you see anyone who should be immediately dropped?

If you can wait till the deadline or end of the season then you may want to trade some of your younger guys that you won\'t be able to sign. Try to do some package deals for a little older more established player then sign them to a contract. You have a lot of guys that would deserve contracts but not enough to go around. I\'d say your definite keepers would have to be Stamkos, Luongo, Price, Filatov, Turris(as Brian said). I like what you did with your RW and think you will end up starting Kostitsyn by the end of the year...so you have a great young team, but the key word is young. It would be awesome if you were in a dynasty!!!

I wouldn\'t drop anyone unless there is a gem sitting out there on the wire. All of the guys you drafted have the potential to produce well for you.

Considering that you have Luongo, I\'ll do it in a second.

Heatley over Price for the next 3 years. Heatley is a 100 pts guy, and Price have all to prove.

Milan Michalek lot of potential, but didn\'t prove it yet, while Staal could equal Michalek in production if he stay with Malkin.
