3 years for a guy who turns 38 soon? Since it's a 35+ contract, that $6.25M will stay on their cap even if he retires before the contract ends.

Shocking that he's out of SJ, but also wow, that is a hefty price tag and term for a guy who's 37 and put up 46 points last season. I still like what TO's doing overall, but what in the world is the point to this move? If Marleau wanted to go to TO, great, sign him for a discount, or at least true market value, but why overpay for him? And if TO wasn't a draw for Marleau, then leave him alone. I don't get it.

Jut looking into the Leafs cap situation. They are 2.4mill over the cap. But with Horton and Lupul it'll go to being about 8mill below the cap. But they need to be wary of the performance bonuses that is 5.37mill. Brown and Hyman need to be signed (RFAs). They'll be right at the cap again

I like Marleau the person, but as a hockey move this was a mistake. Jvr already brings what Marleau does for less money.

Move JvR for a D must be their plan. But now teams know they're hampered and need to move a player. Lowering the value of who they'll trade away
